The pedi told me 1 Tb is a serving of fruit, veg, meat and 1/4c for grains. I didn't ask how many servings of each they are suppose to get a day. I saw some websites say b/w 4-8 serving a day/each. That sounds like a lot to me!
What are you guys giving for meals, and are you giving your LO servings of each of these at all meals?
I'm really trying not to be a nervous nelly about exact portion sizes, but I want to make sure he's getting enough of what he needs. Thanks!
Re: how many servings...
Kellan is refusing pretty much all purees right now so I've been worried about him getting enough too. For lunch today I made pancakes for the first time and he loved those, he had 1 mini pancake, maybe about the size of 2 silver dollars.
I keep hearing that solids are really just for practice till age 1 so I'm trying not to stress too much about it.
It really just depends on the day and the meal and how DS is acting. DS is a big eater the majority of the time, anyways.
For instance, yesterday he for lunch he ate an entire grilled cheese (minus the crusts), about an 1/8 of a cup of peas and about 1/8 of a cup of pears. Plus a handful of cheerios.
For dinner last night he ate some keilbasa sausage and I have no clue how much he ate! Plus he ate 2.5 ounces of carrot puree and a handful of cheerios.
Today so far for breakfast he had a big 6oz bowl full of oatmeal and fruit puree and he hasn't woken up from his nap yet so we haven't done lunch yet.
I have no idea to be honest..so I appreciate the guideline you posted.
I try to give her varied meals, but no she doesn't get a serving of every group at every meal.
I do fruit and grain or veggie and grain for the most part. Throw in a dairy product and the occassional meat as well.
It depends on the day, the time and what's going on. Somedays she can't get enough food, the otherwise one bite and we're done.
Rubes isn't the best eater...so I'm just happy with whatever she decides to eat.
I basically just make sure she has 3 options or so on her high chair and let her choose from there. I'm also probably weird but it's more important to me that she likes a little of a lot of things rather than a lot of one things....I don't want a fussy eater down the line. Basically, I let her taste test all she wants.
I don't really stress about it..she's little. It'll all balance in the end.
My pedi also tells me no kid will ever starve themselves.
