Cloth Diapering

Does this seem right? (re: prepping)

Hi everyone,

I have been slowly acquiring a stash for my new baby (due in July), and I have a little bit of everything. Now that we are close to having finished the nursery, I want to prep all the diapers, and after reading the FAQs, I learned not to prep natural fibers with unnatural fibers... So, this is my plan to "group" the prep work. Does this seem right?

Load #1: Used prefolds + new natural fiber inserts (hemp & cotton)+ new fitteds (cotton)

Load #2: microfiber inserts (all new)

Load #3:  AIOs (all new)

Load #4: All shells- PUL covers, gDiapers, outer parts of AIOs, outer shells of pockets (some new, some used)

I plan on washing everything in EcoNuts Liquid. I plan on just doing each load once. Is this a good way to do it, with the least amount of work? I don't want to do anything wrong and ruin my diapers before they've ever been worn!

Thanks so much! I know that I ask a lot of questions, so I appreciate the feedback.

  • I'd make a few changes. This is what I would do:

Load #1: used prefolds, microfiber inserts, AIOs (if they're synthetic), and shells.

Loads 2-5: new natural fiber inserts & fitteds

You'll find that natural fiber (hemp and cotton) items need to be washed and dried 3-5 times before they become absorbent. But if you have a pot large enough, and if the fitteds don't have any snaps on them, you could boil them all for about half an hour instead to save yourself some time.

Once things are prepped, you can wash everything together. I'm assuming the prefolds have been prepped since they're used. GL. :)
