1st Trimester

So confused!!

So I had my first OB appointment on the 5th & the ultrasound said I was at 5 weeks. I have been keeping up with a few different pregnancy sites & they all give me a different "time span" of where I am at & how big my baby is. One says I'm 8 weeks & my baby is a raspberry. The other says I'm 7 weeks & my baby is a blueberry. I'm very very confused now & don't know what to believe as to far I am. Any insight???

Re: So confused!!

  • I've had the same problem! Based on my lmp, I'm five weeks and based on when I know I ovulated, I'm 4w2d. So is my baby a poppy seed or an apple seed? I think the ultrasound is the telling thing...many people don't know when they ovulate and a lot of people ovulate earlier or later than trackers predict (as with me). Good luck!!!

  • Based on my LMP I would be at 10 weeks & 5 days, but the ultrasound read 5 weeks, & we are unsure of when I ovulated. It's usually at the 2 week mark after my cycle. I just want to know where I'm at! haha
  • Are your period's regular? You might have skipped a period and then ovulated? Making you five weeks instead of ten? As long as your hcg levels are doubling every 48-72 hours and the baby's heartbeat looks good, should be okay no matter how big the baby is measuring :o)

  • Thats the thing we don't know. Since I was so much earlier then they thought, there was only a yolk sac & they didn't look for a heartbeat or do any blood work. We are trying to wait until my next appt on the 30th, but I'm having a hard time waiting it out, only bc I want everything to be ok & I need the peace of mind of hearing & seeing my little "raspberry"

  • My OB just went by my LMP. Even when the U/S pushed it back each time they stuck with it. It also depends on your cycle days but that didn't seem the case for me when I was pg with #1. I calculated a 23rd due date based on my 35 day cyle, OB stuck with 19th based on 28 day cycle, LO looked bigger on U/S more like 15th I had her on the 6th a whopping 8.5lb. She was 2.5 weeks early. I also have been tracking my Ovulation with OPK's for some time last time and this time and it seems like I ovulate pretty late in my cycle but who knows...

I am confused all the time.. but as long as your baby is healthy and growing, rasberry blueberry its your little miracle!!

  • For DD, I know I ovulated on day 20 of my cycle. So if they had gone by my LMP, they would have been a week (6 days) off. I would always have to say "My LMP was this date, but I ovulated on day 20," and they used my ovulation date to date the pregnancy. My U/S were always pretty much right on track, give a few days here or there, with my ovulation date.

This time, I can't remember my LMP, but I am fairly sure when I ovulated, within a day either direction. I plan to just count back 14 days and tell them that was my LMP -- easier than explaining my late ovulation date every time.

  • Ultrasound is most accurate for determining age, especially between 6-8 weeks. After that it's not quite as accurate, but still close. I am irregular and usually have about a 35 day cycle. However this time it appears I ovulated a week earlier than I thought. Due to mine and the BF's work schedules I knew there basically 2 dates about a week apart when I possibly conceived.  By tracking method I assumed it was the later one, but it was actually the earlier one based on my U/S measurements. I was exactly 8 weeks 2 days yesterday which corresponded with my conception date of March 7th. I agree that as long as baby looks ok, HCG levels rise, and baby continues to grow. Dates aren't as important. Besides that baby is going to pop out when it is good and ready anyway regardless of your due date!

  • I'm not worried about the date or anything. I just need to get all my ducks in a row so I can be on schedule with everything. Pregnancy brain has got me good this first time & I can barely remember my name, so it's helpful to keep up with these things. For me anyways. All I want is for my baby to be helthy & on track where he/she is supposed to be. That is why I am so concerned with the date.
  • I might recommend just picking one site, putting in the date of your LMP and using that as your only tracking method. I only use thebump so that I'm not confusing myself and getting too much info. If once you have an U/S you find out your due date is off a little, you can always adjust it and go from there. I had to do that because I was a week further along that I originally thought. I certainly understand trying to stay organized and keep up with things! Also there is normally a range of when things happen during development and when you need certain tests and things done.  Every baby develops a little differently in the womb just as they all develop a little differently once they are born.
