Does anyone here honestly believe...

That the world is ending or whatever this year? I know too many people who believe it, and I have to admit I get uneasy sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not true...

Re: Does anyone here honestly believe...

  • No, I don't believe it.  I know people that joke about it, but I don't know anyone that believes it.  Do these people take it seriously, or are just trying to be funny?

I definitely think there's something to the math and their predictions.  But no, I don't think the world is going to end in December.

  • It looks like my post last night got you thinking :)

    My short answer is: No.

My long answer is: No, but something exciting might happen. Forgive me if I am mistaken, but I've basically just been told that the Mayans predicted the end of an era, and not actually the end of the world. So there might be some major changes that happen around that time (earthquakes, volcanoes, political happenings...whatever). Their mathematical predictions have been correct in the past, so I see no problem with believing that something MIGHT happen.

But then again, that type of stuff can happen at any time on any date. If it just happens to happen in December, it will most likely get attributed to the Mayan prediction whether or not it is actually connected at all.

I'm not sure that I'm making sense, so I apologize for lack of clarity Stick out tongue

I have two friends who are very serious about it. :/

I don't know, sometimes I just can't shake the feeling that something is going to happen. I don't know what though.

  • I think people just pretend to believe it. If they really believed it they would quit their jobs, pull their kids out of school, stop paying their bills or flossing, or filing taxes, or working out, and just hang for the next 9 months right?

  • I fully believe there will be an end of the world as we know it and I think something will happen in Dec that will be a catalyst. It isn't just the Mayans, there are NA Indians, Masons and other eastern civilizations that all have very similair predictions and explanations. I'm not hoarding canned goods but we do have a plan.
  • If I hear anyone talk about this at work it annoys the living daylights out of me. I quickly said 'I guess you failed elementary school math'. They quickly shut up when I tell them that zero degrees in a circle is the same as 360. I hate when people talk about things they don't have all the information about. Why would the Mayan's need to write a calendar for 361 degrees when you can just look at year 1 degree again

May I ask what this is?

  • Absolutely not. I am not at all superstitious  Honestly, I would side-eye anyone that takes it seriously.

  • No, I don't believe it. Just like I didn't believe it would end with Y2K or June of last year...
  • not one bit!! the Mayans predicted the date long before we implemented leap year.  so, b/c of leap year what should have been Dec. 21 2012 happened last summer.  so sorry Mayans, no end of the world here.

Basically we have a back up plan of a place to live that is relatively protected, access to weapons, horses as an alternate means of transportation should gas become too expensive or hard to get and a place to grow enough crops to be self sustaining an a few people to make a small community.

Should anything happen, we're moving in with you.  :)  I'll bring some canned goods.

This. I have a little half belief, but this can happen at anytime. We'll see, I guess.

  • There have been 5 mass extinctions since the start of life on earth, so it's reasonable to say that there will be another one at some point in the future. I do not, however, think that something like that can be predicted.
  • Anything's possible at anytime but I don't have any bets on December.... I guess we'll all find out soon enough!
