Portable washer ladies (I know I've seen a couple of you!)

Just curious about your detergent experience. What has worked for you? What amounts?

 We'll have almost all prefolds. The hottest water we may have is just extremely warm (not comfortable to touch, but no burns) but there's also a chance that we may be stuck with just cold. Old building, ancient sinks. Pretty hard water as well. I'm thinking of starting out with Dropps, Charlie's and Calgon, and Tide powder... not together of course!

    I use the BumGenius detergent and about 1 tspn for every 5-6 diapers. I also look in the final rinse for bubbles and run an extra rinse if there are indeed bubbles.

    Ah, I hadn't even thought of basing the amount on the number of diapers! That'll have to be something I try. Thanks!

    Well we have an older baby, so we never have a full load bc her usage varies, she's 16 mos and goes on the potty. I'd start with the manufacturer's rec then look to see if there are bubbles in the final rinse. Then adjust the amt I use the next time if there are bubbles.
