I got rid of all synthetics because of our ridiculously hard water. the microfiber would NOT come clean.
I'm using workhorse fitteds with covers and washing with a FL. We have a water softener, but our water has high iron/rust still (all our whites are now a lovely orange).
I do a heavy wash on warm (with extra water, the washer is about half full and the diapers are immersed).
I do the same thing on HOT with detergent (I'm using the EFF, I tried Purex free and clear and All free and Clear and RnG all with the same issue).
I do the same wash on HOT with no detergent. The diapers come out smelling clean, but DS's diaper was on 2 hours today and it still stunk like ammonia when I took it off him.
Do you think I need more detergent (I'm using about 1 tbsp)? Or am I just destined to have issues between a FL and hard water? The stupid water softener screws EVERYTHING because it just makes things suds forever. I tried the BG detergent and I used a HALF a sample pack and I could not get the dipes to stop sudsing.
Re: ammonia stink help
Have you tried doing a strip with RLR to get rid of all the mineral deposits from the hard water? We also have hard water, but don't have a water softener. I find Calgon and RLR help a ton with stink issues. My MF is like new!
