Is you hair falling out?

I have read that during pregnancy your hair doesn't fall out and the normal rate and that after birth it kind of catches up and an increase is expected. However, at the rate I'm going I'm going to be bald after another two months of this! Anyone else? I may wander into the wonderful world of hair extensions soon!

Re: Is you hair falling out?

  • It usually slows down after a few months.  I am losing more then I remember with my first, but I know it's normal.  By about 6 months it usually slows down and starts to go back to normal hair loss.  Keep in mind you aren't losing your good hair, it's just the extra that you gained while pregnant!  And it will most likely grow back - although there is a small percentage of people who don't have it grow back.

  • No, but I wish I were losing some hair! It's still barely falling out, so my hair is a tangled mess!

  • It is nasty. I hate it. It gets everywhere.

    Yes! In droves.

It's so bad i have to plug the bathroom sink, flip my head over and comb it over the sink so all the hair falls into it.  My husband would vomit if he saw all that hair (he's so grossed out by hair on the floor, etc).

  • My hair has always fallen out, but this is the worst it has ever been!  I'm afraid I'm going to be bald by next month!

  • I just started shedding a ton, after no shedding at all while pregnant:/

  • I think I remember reading it starts falling out 3 months after giving birth and mine started falling out about that time. I brush my hair out before I wash it so it doesn't get in the shower.

  • Yes!  It is so disgusting, I brush my hair before I shower and it still comes out in handfuls when I put conditioner it.  Its like gross spider webs.  And it gets everywhere, I'm always picking my hair off my shirt and my son's clothes and blankets.  I hope it stops soon...

  • Glad to know I'm not alone! I'm usually a shedder anyways but this is getting ridiculous. My husband gets pretty grossed out by all the hair in the shower if I forget to clean it up. Egh.

  • I am shedding like a dog in the summer! But I distinctly remember not shedding at all the last half of being pregnant, so it's just catching up now... I do hope it ends soon though, it is pretty gross!

  • Gosh, yes! DS is pulling out clumps of it.  One of my first pregnancy symptoms was my hair falling out like this (only worse, actually).  It stopped by the middle of my second trimester but is starting again.  Double whammy!

  • Mine is always super thick.  I am looking forward to going back to normal thick hair.

I'm going to have to start doing that... while it was nice not to have to clean the shower drain for months I'll be glad once its done coming out, my hair is ridiculously thick to begin with so now its a mess and such a pain to dry. Plus DS keeps getting it wrapped around his fingers... ugh.

  • For you mammas with boys make sure when doing diaper changes that a strand doesn't fall into the new diaper. That pearl of advice was given to me by my cousin who said her poor son was screaming in pain and they couldn't figure out why until they realized a hair was wrapped tightly around his winky. :(
