Cloth Diapering

Newborn Stash and a ?

We are going to go the AIO route for the newborn phase and I was just wondering how many diapers do I really need. I could possibly wash every night but it's the line drying that I don't trust, especially during the Winter.

Here is my stash right now:

12 BG AIOs NB

12 GroVia AIOs NB

4 Rump.a.Rooz Lil Joeys (sooo expensive lol)

I paid $200 for all of these new so it wasn't that bad. Do you think 28 is enough? I also have some FuzziBunz OS Elite that run very small (4) that I could also use, but no prefolds. I do have Flip covers with reusuable and disposable inserts but they are OS and look pretty big IMO.

I need to know so that I can get away from all the CD sales, I can't stop buying or browsing :(

Re: Newborn Stash and a ?

  • I would count on going through at least 12 diapers a day during the newborn stage, especially very early on. The AIOs will take longer to line dry -- are you opposed to drying them in the dryer for any reason?

  • I would recommend you get a dozen prefolds and 2 covers or so for emergencies.  If you don't use them for diapers they make excellent burp rags.
If the house ain't burned down and the baby's fed it was a successful day. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Well not against it, but the label says to line dry at least the BGs. Then I asked on here and everyone said that the heat destroys the PUL. I could put it on low but it's a coin operated communal dryer and it's pretty crappy. I use BG Freetimes for ODD but those are pretty easy to dry because of the design. Do you use the dryer?

And only 12 diapers a day? Phew, I am cutting it so close!

  • I didn't have the courage to cloth diaper my newborn the first time around, but I'm going to this time! That sounds like a good stash...I would agree with getting a few prefolds and covers just in case you don't get to the laundry in time.

I also just wanted to say that we used Flips starting from when my DD was 4 weeks old. She was a pretty average size, maybe a little bigger than average. But I bet you'll be able to use your Flips earlier than you think. :)
