She delivered her baby and ate the placenta! Whoa!

  • I can understand the home birth, but eating the placenta is so gross.  It is a giant blood clot, and a organ.  Would she eat her foot if it was amputated?

    Also- while I commend home birth if that is your thing, I don't commend no prenatal care.  She was a very, very lucky woman.  The list of things that could have gone wrong is endless.  It implies that you don't need prenatal care and can go only by how you "feel".  I'd love a completely natural, non-invasive pregnancy and labor, but I would have a midwife with medical experience working with me all the way.

  • While I could never eat my placenta, there are perfectly rational and valid reasons for doing so.  I plan to have mine encapsulated only because I can't stomach the thought of actually eating it raw or cooked. 

    It's much different than eating your foot.  Why not spend a little time researching the very valid reasons for ingesting your placenta before you continue to make ignorant comments?  Just because it's not for you doesn't mean that women who do it are gross, disgusting or crazy.
