1st Trimester

where are you buying your maternity clothes?

I dont like the selection at Target. I have been to Destination Maternity- and found a few things.

Any other suggestions? I dont want to buy online- I want to try on.

Re: where are you buying your maternity clothes?

  • Target, Kohl's, JC Penny, Old Navy, Sears (I got some really cute things there surprisingly).  Then there's Motherhood Maternity, Destination Maternity, etc.
  • Loading the player...
  • I found a few things at a department store outlet, a couple of things at Target, had some items gifted to me from motherhood, got GREAT stuff from a consignment shop, and a lot of hand me downs.    I would not suggest buying online -- I tried to from the Gap and ended up having to exchange...

  • Motherhood and H&M.
  • I don't have many options except to order online. I live in a really small town and the two larger cities that are within an hour don't have much selection either! I have already purchased a few items from Old Navy online (great deals) and I have had great luck so I will likely just get anything more I need from there as well.

  • I always see people posting about how ugly maternity clothes are, but mine are actually cute! My mom has a newborn and gave me all of her maternity clothes that she got from Burlington Coat Factory. If you have one in your area, I recommend checking them out. Cute and inexpensive, perfect for clothes you're only going to wear for a few months.

  • I know you said you don't like the Target selection, but I got my basics there last time -- couple pairs of jeans, couple pairs of basic slacks, some T-shirts.

I got cute sweaters etc. at Motherhood (DD was born end of March, so it was all winter clothes for me).

I got some maternity tanks that I lived in third tri from bravadodesigns.com.

Also, you can keep wearing your nonmaternity pants/shorts/skirts for a while using a belly band, especially during 1st tri bloat and through until you really pop.

I'll probably be hitting the same places this time, but for some lighter things. I expect I will pop in mid-July or so.

i think gap has the best stuff i've found. my first preg i just ordered a ton to try on with different sizes with the intention of returning. they have a return shipping fee of like $6 flat rate, so i just made it worth my while and did all my shopping at once and sent back the extra sizes. granted it's a pain, but it was worth it for me bc i liked their stuff a lot better than anything i could get locally. better quality and feels more like regular clothes.
  • Motherhood Maternity.  Love their stuff and not expensive (IMO)!!

  • I got my staples for work last time around (khakis with tummy panel, etc) from Gap Maternity. My best consignment stuff was from Gap.

I had some stuff from motherhood maternity... just be careful of what material you get. Do the spit test to see if sweat will show... I was really disappointed in their product.

This! Was there yesterday and got four pairs of shorts and a cute, simple tank dress for $60.

  • If you can find a Baby Gap near you that carries the Gap Maternity line (yeah, for some reason it's sold in Baby Gap) that's where I found some great stuff. They had a few things on sale, too. Plus, it was nice to try on the jeans before I bought them (I used a coupon to get them online after that ;)

    Good luck!

  • I got mine at Kohl's. And you know they are ALWAYS having sales. You can get some great stuff there. My midwife also suggested Goodwill because a lot of moms who don't want another baby or don't plan on getting pregnant again will donate their maternity wear. And since you don't wear it for long, they are usually in great condition. Hope this helps :)
  • I just went to clothes mentor and even though I had to weed through stuff, I feel like I got a great deal. 7 pairs of pants & 3 skirts for $90
  • Best one so far has been GAP Maternity for me... I like to try on as well!!

  • I was not interested in buying maternity clothes but after running around in clothes that were too big and squeezing into jeans-  I gave in. Not a fan of Target for the same reason. Gap and Old Navy, I felt, were boring and the clothing tended to stretch out and the jeans were scratchy. Motherhood is more often a miss for me. Might find 1 or 2 items. I LOVE A Pea in A  Pod. Not a fan of the prices but they often have Buy One Get One 50% off Clearance items or Buy One Get One Free Clearance. Turns out to be a great deal for designer quality clothing when already on clearance and then getting 50% off. Watch for the sales! It amazing how good quality maternity clothes can really change the way you feel about yourself throughout the day.

After trying on pants from Motherhood, I decided that I wanted ONE pair of jeans to make me look hot even when I was huge. All of the motherhood pants did not do anything for my rear!  I bought ONE pair of jeans from pea in the pod (about $100), and have worn them from 6- 30 weeks without regret!  I also bought motherhood shorts/skirts on sale.  Target (regular) workout clothing in large or XL for working out, or house cleaning. Boden USA (online) has cute stuff if this is your first and will be wearing them through more than one pregnancy. They have freeshipping and returns!!!!  I am on my last child, and have not had a baby in 8 years, so all my prego stuff is long gone.  Since I knew these clothes were not a long term investment, I bought stuff from Macy's INC collection to wear through pregnancy and later, flowing tops, maxi dresses, and maxi skirts can all be worn for a long time, and after pregnancy.  I just used coupons for each purchase, buying only sale, and paying less than $20 a peice! Honestly, why do maternity clothes have to be so ugly?  I also like to be original and not look like every other prego mommy! Think out  of the box.  You don't HAVE to buy materinty tops, although I do belive in comfy maternity pants.
  • My favorites so far - Target online (not in the store, selection is better online), ASOS, Splendid, Gap, Old Navy.....and non-maternity stuff that will work for the awkward stage of now, the rest of pregnancy, and PP as I work to get my body back (IMO, those are the things worth spending a little more on - I'm a huge Lululemon and Athleta fan for comfy workout and yoga wear that transitions just as nicely outside of the gym as regular casual wear - all super comfy and with stretchy waists!)
