I know everyone says these aren't good to use as diapers but why? Are they not thick enough? Do the not wear well? Leak?
I have 10 NB size indian prefolds. I also have 10-12 flat diapers. I have plenty of diapers for once LO is a bit bigger but I'm thinking I might want a few more for the newborn stage just in case. I was thinking about picking up a pack of Gerber prefolds since I don't have to order them and they are cheap. If they are thinner than nice prefolds I'm wondering if they would work better for a newborn since they wouldn't be as bulky? If they don't get used for diapers or when I'm done they will still get plenty of use as cleaning rags. NB prefolds would be too small for this purpose. Do you ladies think the Gerber prefolds would be ok or should I just get more NB size?
Re: Gerber prefolds?
I used Gerber prefolds for about 3 months to fill out my stash for LO, they are alright with a good cover but really don't hold much pee. I usually doubled up layering 2 of them together for ok absorbancy.
I say to go for it but be aware that you will need to change baby often and compression leaks will happen.
I now use the Gerber prefolds as burp cloths and as extra inserts for pockets.

The one's I have felt in person didn't seem very soft to me compared to a regular CD prefold. Our local cloth diaper store sells used prefolds for $1 each (all different sizes) which make them cheaper than the Gerber one's and higher quality.
