I love it...DS is Daniel Charles III and we call him Trey. My husband is a Jr so you can say DS is named after my husband and his father but we named him the III in honor of my DH's father who passed before we got married. There are a lot of Daniel's in our friend group so we used Trey.
Trey is much better than Trip...which I have heard for children that are the 3rd in the name generation.
The waste in life lies in the love we have not given, the powers we have not used and the selfish prudence that will risk nothing; and which shirking pain, misses happiness as well.

The only Trey I knew who wasn't called that because he was a III (and that was only one other kid who was cute who barely pulled it off) was a tattooed thug and a loser. So that's the image I get from it.
I'm good with it. My stepBIL is Trey, but that's just his nn. He is a III.
This. We have friends who have a III and they call him Trey. I always thought it was snoody before, but after hearing it for a few years, I think it's cute.
My impression of the name Trey is that it is a nn for a man who carries the same name as his father and grandfather. Rather than John Smith III he is called Trey, is that right?
Anyway, that's what I think of when I see/hear Trey.
It feels overused these days anyway. I'd rather hear Bud now.
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am

I've only really heard it as a nickname for someone who was a III.
This is what I was thinking.
I oly like it as a nickname for someone who is a "third".
Oh, and I named my Saturn Ion 3 "Tre", so I can only think of my dearly departed car when I hear it.
This.
