Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Why Provera?

I had my m/c 3/3 and still haven't had a period. DH and I have decided to stop trying for a while so I can get my diet and nutrition back on track, and, therefore, want me to get back on BC. My midwife told me I need to take 10 day Provera before I start my birth control, but I didn't really understand why. I know it will "jumpstart" my AF but won't the birth control do the same thing? Any insight to this would be very much appreciated. I'd prefer not to take anything unless absolutely necessary.

TIA!

Re: Why Provera?

  • Well normally you start BCP right after or during a cycle, right? It's been a while since I've been on BCP so I can't recall which it is.  She probably wants your uterus to cleanse itself of any lining that's developed since your loss before starting on BCP.

Why can't you just wait for your cycle to come on it's own before starting BCP?

  • I can... I guess I just thought she would tell me to do that or that the BCP would just jump start my cycles...???
