2nd Trimester

clinique even better clinical skin serum?

I know this is a VERY specific question but maybe someone has 2 cents - I have not used anything on my skin other than gentle face wash and moisturizers since the 1st trimester.  I had pretty bad breakouts that are finally (fingers crossed) starting to slow down (23 weeks!).  I used to use clinique even better clinical skin serum to help reduce the marks/scars in the past - its a product that I have always loved, even when I didn't have scars to reduce (after a LONG time of use!) it made me "glowy" - so with all of these scars I was talking to my girlfriend the other day and she told me to start using it again.   She said that she didn't think there was anything in it that would cause problems - but that was just one opinion.  I have searched all of the internet to see if there is any info if this is safe for preg, but I haven't had any luck.  Thought that this would be a good question for The Bump ladies - see if any of you use it/ have been given more direction on whats safe from your Dr/ etc?

Thanks so much and TGIF!

Re: clinique even better clinical skin serum?

  • Hi! I would try to look up an ingredients list- I'd be weary of anything with the word "clinical" in it- that usually means it has some skin lightening or anti-aging component that aren't good during pregnancy.

I had decent skin pre-pregnancy and used plain oil of olay moisturizer but even that started to make me break out when I was pregnant- I switched to Aveeno Naturals and that really helped.  GL!

  • I use the Clinique Even Better Moisturizer usually, and my MIL buys it for me and my SIL for Christmas. My SIL is pregnant also (due in a little over a week!) and made it a point to text me and tell me NOT to use it during pregnancy.

I don't know what exactly she was basing it on, but I have a feeling, knowing her, that she talked to her doctor about it and he/she recommended not using it. We don't text a lot, so it was out of the ordinary to get something like that from her. I took it seriously and haven't used it since during my pregnancy.

I was having some skin issues at first and found skin care products guidelines for pregnancy very confusing too--different sources said totally opposite things!  I decided just to err on the side of caution for now and not use anything I'm iffy about.

  • I would be very surprised if it didn't have salicylic acid in it, which is on the NO list.

  • It isn't in the EWG database, but you can look up each ingredient and then put together a picture for yourself: https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

  • thanks everyone - i think its bettter to err on the side of caution after reading your replies.  I can deal with a few marks on my face - i can't deal with the idea of harming my baby!  thank you :-)
  • If it helps, I found this great article that kind of breaks down what is good and what isn't so good in beauty products for pregnant women.   Definitely enlightened me!  I was worried that my face wash has %0.5 salicylic acid but it looks like, along with everything else, in moderation and in the correct usage, it's not so bad.  It's definitely good to be informed though!
