Adoption

We're home with our new little girl!

Two weeks ago, after close to 9 months of waiting for a match, our agency called us about an unusual siuation- an 11 month old little girl being placed for a private adoption. For about 24 hours it was up and down while they sorted out the BF (he assented). They voluntarily TPR on Thursday and we flew out on Good Friday. After 7 days in the hotel waiting for ICPC we came home a week ago today. Everything is going great.

After a few days with the baby DH and I had an opportunity to meet together with the BF - he was great. Outgoing, friendly, polite - wonderful guy.

The day after DH left I met alone with the baby, BM and social workers. I dreaded it for a lot of reasons. I had very much wanted to see BM but I was afraid after 5 days that if baby came to the meeting she would cling to BM and it would break my heart. I am so glad i agreed to meet with everyone though! When social worker brought the baby into the room she was sleeping. SW handed her to BM and she just rocked her.  When baby woke up a while later, she looked at BM, then looked around the room and found me and reached her arms out.  And when BM put her down she crawled over to me and climbed up on my lap and put her head down. I felt awful for BM but she handled it very well and just kept saying - "she looks so happy with you, she knows your her mama now." The whole thing still broke my heart, but it's one of the best things I have ever done - for me and the baby. And we took lots of pictures for the baby to have someday.

For those wondering about older siblings - once we knew TPR was "official" we took my bio-DD (almost 4) with us and explained generally (again) what was going on.  My DH took DD1 home on Tuesday while i waited for ICPC with the baby. It helped DD1 tremendously with the transition and she was SO excited for me to bring her home. She kept telling me she would just take her home on the airplane with Daddy and I could wait for the paperwork by myself!

Baby is doing great - I feel like she has been here forever! Thank you everyone for all of your support and advice while on this amazing journey and prayers to all of those families out their waiting.

  • I am so sad for her birth mama, but soooo happy for you guys!!
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever!
