Anyone else's LO sleep with face in mattress when sleeping on tummy?

So LO just recently discovered sleeping on his tummy...but the past couple of night he has decided to just have his face down in the mattress as opposed to resting on either side of his face. Needless to say, this mama has gotten little to no sleep because I am so paranoid. He is 6 months old and can roll, and lift head, but I am still worried..I have no idea how he breaths like that!?!?!  I keep moving his head, but he moves it back, face planting right into mattress. Anyone else have this issue?? SHould I be worried??

  • Anna definitely did this for a little while...and it is why a super firm mattress with nothing but a sheet is so important!   It was nerve wracking, but she was fine and she eventually outgrew it.   Just keep that crib clear and he will be ok.  Hang in there!

  • Yes.  K sleeps face down.  Honestly, I haven't worried about it.  She went in the crib at 5.5 months.  At that point, she could roll well and lift her head.  Plus, she's kind of a haus :).  Anyway, it doesn't freak me.

I can say if she was my first, it probably would have freaked me out.  Poor second child, lol.

  • DS started rolling to his tummy to sleep around 6 months (when we sleep trained and put him down awake).  He sleeps with his face down a lot of the time though he rolls all over in the crib so it isn't all the time.  The first couple of times I was worried but now I don't even think about it.  He still does it though and is almost 1 year so he hasn't outgrown it.  We also have a super firm mattress and absolutely nothing in his crib.  That makes me feel better.

  • My oldest did and still does! Freaks me out, but she's 3 and is fine. lol! I didn't give her a blanket or pillow until she asked for it, though.  She sleeps on her side more now, but when she is on her tummy, she's face down.
