16 inch full term baby?

One of our friends just had a baby who was 16 inches long at birth, She was full term and weighed 7ibs 11ozs. I heard second hand from a NICU nurse that they start testing babies who are less that 17in for things like growth issues and dwarfism.  Is anyone familiar with this?

    Full term as in 40 weeks? I'm just asking because full term starts at 37 weeks. My DD was born at 38 weeks exactly and was only 17 1/2 inches. They weren't/aren't concerned about any growth issues or anything.

    well then that's a small little girl! I thought my LO was really small haha. She was 7 pounds exactly at birth. I hope she doesn't have any growth issues.

    It's strange that you asked this today. My cousin delivered her son today at 37 weeks, and he is only 16.5 inches. But he's also tiny...4 lbs 11oz.
