16 inch full term baby?

One of our friends just had a baby who was 16 inches long at birth, She was full term and weighed 7ibs 11ozs. I heard second hand from a NICU nurse that they start testing babies who are less that 17in for things like growth issues and dwarfism.  Is anyone familiar with this?

Re: 16 inch full term baby?

  • Full term as in 40 weeks? I'm just asking because full term starts at 37 weeks. My DD was born at 38 weeks exactly and was only 17 1/2 inches. They weren't/aren't concerned about any growth issues or anything.

well then that's a small little girl! I thought my LO was really small haha. She was 7 pounds exactly at birth. I hope she doesn't have any growth issues.

  • It's strange that you asked this today. My cousin delivered her son today at 37 weeks, and he is only 16.5 inches. But he's also tiny...4 lbs 11oz.
