Success after IF

Need advice regarding my 6mo and night time sleep issue..

So over the last month or so, DS has been waking up in the middle of the night 2-5 times a night (mostly between the hours of midnight and 5 am). We have to go into his room and give him is paci and he falls back asleep. I recall this happening with DS #1 as well. Its driving me nuts and I am not sure what to do. He never really wakes up crying , but starts making noises. Part of me wonders if he is waking up because he is itchy (he has moderate eczema on his body and is often itchy) or is he waking up or stirring like any normal human being does and has trouble falling back asleep without the paci?

Anyone elses DS do this? Any advice? Do I let him work it out on his own? Im afraid if I dont give him the paci, he might start crying eventually and Im not sure if I want him to CIO yet. I also feel bad if he actually is itchy and needs to paci as a soothing device. Im just frustrated because he used to sleep so much more soundly. FYI--he goes to bed around 7pm and gets up for the day around 6isham. Im frickin tired from waking up so much!!

Re: Need advice regarding my 6mo and night time sleep issue..

  • To be honest, I wouldn't go to him unless he was crying.  My DS can be quite a little noisy monkey when sleeping, and I used to do the same thing - go to him every time he made a noise.  One of my friends suggested that perhaps I was starting a bad habit and that he really didn't all that tending to and was just cycling through sleep like we all do naturally - changing positions, stretching etc, etc...

That said - my DS didn't take a paci and didn't have exzema. ... so my thoughts may have no bearing or be of any help.

I will say I'm SORRY! Sleep deprivation SUCKS.

  • DD is sooo noisy when she sleeps!  She is now 11 months old but back when we started transitioning her to sleep through the night I stopped going into her room unless she was really crying.  She took a paci back then but actually stopped using it around that same time and started sucking her thumb for comfort.  I agree with pp's...don't go in unless he is really awake and maybe he will learn to self soothe.  Sorry you are going through this.  Hugs.
