New! Boston area midwife referral?

Hello all,

Just saying hi. I'm new to The Bump. DW and I live outside of Boston. We've been together for 12 years (crazy to write that), married for 3, and on our 2nd month trying to conceive. I'm 6dpo and driving myself insane with the waiting game. That being said, I'm bloated, feeling a little crampy, and my boobs hurt. That's a good sign, right?

I see a lot of Boston mamas on here. Any midwife or OB recommendations for Newton/Wellelsey/Natick? I want to use Midwives at Mt Auburn, but it is a bit far from my house for regular appointments. I figured I should at least look into closer practices.

Thanks!

  • Welcome!

I'm not from the Boston area (yet! We're hoping to move in the next year) but just wanted to say hi.  I'm 6dpo too!  And yes, the waiting is KILLER.

Baby dust to you and welcome again!

  • Thanks ladies! I would actually prefer to deliver at NWH, but all my gay friends with babies used Mt Auburn Midwives. I just want DW and I to not be given weird looks in the waiting room, y'know?

I will add Sue Wright to my list - thanks!

And definite baby dust to you too, E+K. It's nice to hear that someone else is in the same place. I feel like a crazy person analyzing every noise or feeling my body makes. Hopefully good news for us both soon!

  • I saw Dr Devries at Wellesley Women's Care for my prenatal care.  I liked the practice.  I do think that the nurse blew me off about a bp concern a few weeks before I delivered but I don't think it would have changed anything.  She was nice and they didn't blink twice about my wife and I being gay.  I really loved the ob from the practice that saw me at NWH the night I went in she was awesome Dr Newton-Cheh.  Took control of the situation and got things moving very quickly.  I ended up being transferred to The Brigham since I was in critical condition and NWH does not treat preemies at my dd gestational age.  I was delivered by Dr Economy (mfm at the brigham and I loved her) but hope you don't need her.  We did our inseminations with the Mid wives at Mt Auburn but I wanted an ob practice for my maternity care I am a bit of a worrier and of course I ended up needing that level of care so it worked out.  Welcome to the board

  • I don't have a midwife referral -- we used the Midwives at Mount Auburn for our first few IUIs and plan to return for prenatal care when I get pregnant -- but just wanted to say welcome.  Also -- I honestly doubt you'd get weird looks in any waiting room in the Boston area, especially a midwife practice. :)  Good luck with your 2nd cycle!

Hi! Thanks for the welcome. I love MMA, but with traffic it can take me forever to get there. Not ideal for those last couple months of pregnancy! Good luck to you guys!

No, I don't think I'd want to live too far from my midwife either!  We're fortunate that MMA has a clinic in our town and we're 15 mins from MAH.  Wish my RE was that close -- the 7:45 am monitoring appointments are killing me.
