I have heard so many negative things about Target's baby registry, returning items, etc so I'm debating even registering there.  We're definitely registering at BRU.  There isn't a BBB within 100 miles, so that's out.  I want to register somewhere other than BRU, I just don't know where.  I thought about Amazon, but I doubt anyone would use it.  Suggestions?

Re: What are your experiences with Target?
We did Target and Amazon. No one would have shopped at BRU for us, and we didn't have a BBB yet.
Target was tricky. I felt like I was constantly updating/managing my registry, because suddenly things weren't available. I've heard their new system causes issues.
Our Amazon registry was basically ignored by everyone except 2 people who were out of state.
No one bought us a single thing from BRU.
Target's return policy is awful (on really anything, not just baby goods) We got duplicates of a few things or items that weren't even on the registry.. and it was like pulling teeth to either let me exchange them or get store credit. I would honestly only register there because it's convient for people to shop & you will get the 10% anything coupon a few weeks after your due date.
All in all - most people don't buy you anything from your registry anyways..
We registered at BRU and on Amazon and we had about the same number of things bought off each registry. I think a lot of our friends like being able to order the gift off Amazon...easy shopping!
We did not register at Target and am so glad about that. I LOVE shopping at Target, but have been dealing with them about an online order for almost 2 weeks now and it has been a HUGE pain.
I haven't had a problem with Target taking my returns without receipts. They ask that you print your purchased items list from your registry (which you can do at the kiosk in store) and then they gave me money on a gift card. It wasn't a problem at all.
I do think their registry website sucks. It's super slow and annoying, but it does it's job. As for things being available... it's always hit and miss no matter where you register. I registered for some things on amazon that they stopped selling, it just happens some times.
I hesitated about registering at Target, until I found out my work was giving me a baby shower. The closet thing we have to BRU around here is a TRU with two aisles of baby stuff and there are no other baby stores, and I wanted my coworkers to have some options. But having heard the horror stories about returns, I limited my Target registry to smaller-ticket items and put the bigger stuff on a BRU registry for our families (all OOT) to order online.
There were only a couple of Target registry items I needed to return and luckily they came with gift receipts, so no problem there. Honestly, I've returned a lot of stuff I've bought myself to Target without ever a problem (but I'm pretty anal about saving receipts). As long as you have the receipt, I've found that Target's return policy is actually a WHOLE lot better than BRU/TRU (even with receipt)
I like Target for othe reasons, too. Their prices and customer service are a LOT better than BRU/TRU, their iPhone app is awesome and allows you to manage your registry and is light years better then BRU's app, and their Up&Up diapers and formula are excellent quality and so much cheaper.
Oh, and I registered on Amazon, too. Nobody bought a damn thing.
Don't do it!!! OMG, the registry has been a nightmare. They've only marked two purchased items as "purchased". And people have bought a ton of stuff from it. And I don't even know all of it. I've written to them three times about it, and they don't even respond. I've tried to manually mark what I know has been purchased, but this is going to be a return nightmare. Also, the majority of the items I wanted are now "out of stock". Plus the website loads slowly when it loads at all. Plus it claims to organize the list into categories, but doesn't actually put most things into any category except "other". It's a mess. I rue the day I ever registered there.
My public registry was at BRU. I have no complaints about that one whatsoever.
I had a private registry at Target. It was basically a list for H so he knew what supplies to get in case I went into labor early (which I did, but we were ready after all)... diapers, wipes, formula, drop-ins, etc. I never had a problem with the actual registry, but we never got a completion coupon.
My registry was before they changed their website. I've heard a few complaints about Target registries disappearing or items dropping off randomly since they updated their website.

I registered at BRU and Amazon and had an almost flawless experience.
My friend registered at Target and had a lot of problems with things not being shown as purchased from her registry. BUT I had a similar problem at BRU- I thankfully did not receive any duplicates but she received a ton of duplicates.
She was given 4 diaper genies and 5 bathtubs at her shower. She just returned the extras so it was no big deal, just a pain.
I have had zero problems returning at Target. I was given several things that I wasn't sure where they came from and Target took everything back. It ranged from baby detergent to books. I said I didn't have a receipt, they checked their system and then happily gave me a gc for the items. It was quick and easy.
