Period pains and back pain??

Im 36 weeks and 4 days and I am having period like pains and back pain. They are dull and sometimes are accompanied by my tummy getting tight, but not everytime. Its a dull pain but I just kind of feel off. Should I be concerned? is this labor? Your opinions are appriciated!

  • I have been too....but for me they go away...and I'm not bleeding...so dr said they are just strong Braxton hicks.  When you are in the early stages the contractions continue to come...slow but they don't stop...so if they are still coming call your dr.

  • I've had both of these symptoms for several weeks and my doctor says they are normal. I was worried because I have been told these are also signs of labor. Always a good idea to mention to your doctor just in case!

  • When I had this happen to me, the nurse at my Dr's office told me to drink lots of water and lay down on my left side for awhile... if they go away, then just BH and not to worry.  I ran this past my dr and she said agreed.

My dr made me feel a lot better by saying, "No woman has a baby without knowing it!"  Funny, but it made me feel better. I was worried about "missing" signs of labor, and her comment made me feel better.  Our bodies won't let us "miss" it! :)

  • Sounds like BH/pre-labor to me. I've been having this for about a week now.

  • I had my appt today and asked my OB about this because I've been having the same exact thing.  She said it's just your body's way of preparing, and the period-like pain is to be expected from now on.  She said it's helping get your cervix ready (not necessarily dilating it, but helping it) and I should just feel good that my body is doing exactly what it's supposed to at this point of my pregnancy.

  • Hey i'm the exact same as you! 36 weeks and maybe 5 days haha but i recently saw my doc and asked this exact question yesterday. I guess it's natural for women to experience period like cramps and this isn't a sign of early labor and shouldn't be confused with contractions but she said just like you get cramps for your period this is like your pregnancy cramps indicating your uterus is getting ready for labor.

With that said she said that women experience diff pain and contractions all differently.  you could feel them in the back but timing is everything since your 36 weeks this means that you only need to be concerned about early labor if your symptoms you are having occur every 5 min! You could have false contractions at all kinds of intervals weeks before so for me right now being 36 weeks and so many days and not having a clue what a contraction feels like i'm ging to focus on the five minute rule.

I'm hoping i figure out what the real thing is

  • Me too! For some reason, I didn't expect contrax to feel like period cramps. Mine are mostly a dull pain that occurs when I don't drink enough water or I'm being really active. Doc says they are BH and they will get more frequent as we get closer to D-Day.
