WDYT of the name Zoe?

DH really loves it. I love it too actually, but I just don't know if it's the "one".

I think I am having such a hard time bc I have never known anyone with the name. That should be a good thing, but I don't want to pick a name that will be too out there.

Opinions?

Re: WDYT of the name Zoe?

  • I love the name but I feel like it has to be spelled z-o-e-y or people look at it and think zo.

Going for the Zoee pronunciation.  I'm not a big fan of the Zoey spelling though.

  • Sorry, I'm not a fan.
  • When I hear that name all I can think of the character on Sesame Street who is friends with Elmo.

  • I like it! It's in our top 3 girl names. :)

  • I like it!  Isn't the spelling "Zoe" biblical, and the modification "Zoey" is to secularize the name?  That's what I've always thought.

Zoe has always seemed to me like the type of name people choose to be "funky" but really it's just over used by people wanting to be funky.  Never been a fan.

  • It's a cute name but I've known two Zoe's and they were both little devils as children so I'm a little bias and would never use it.
  • I think it's cute.......wanted to name our dog Zoey but DH didn't like it so we went with Roxy instead :)
  • I think it's gaining in popularity......and I think you are spelling it correctly for the pronunciation you want.  ;)  I knew a few Zoes when I worked at a girls' summer camp, and my cousin just used it for her daughter.

  • Love it, but if you want the long e sound at the end I think you need to go with the Zoey spelling.  It's like Joe and Joey...you would never think that Joe has a long e and people will think the same with Zoe.
  • Personally I LOVE and ADORE the name as it's DD's name.  :)  We spell it Zoey though.  And I didn't pick it to be funky I picked it because it's a beautiful name.

  • I don't know any Zoe's in real life.  The only Zoe's I have come across personally have been pets.

  • I love it! I actually named one of my flour babies that in high school (I had twin flour babies...LOL!)

EDIT: The French way to spell the name is Zoe. I like it spelled that way...well, because I'm French.

  • Zoe is the proper way to spell it, IMO.

It's NMS for my own child, but my friend's daughter is Zoe and it's just perfect for her.

You don't have to decide right this second, either. We had a list of three names and took them to the hospital. When we looked at her, she just "fit" a name we had discounted months before.

I agree with you!  Do NOT spell it Zoey!!!

I like the name - I know 2 Zoes.  I think it's very cute and they both pronounce it "Zoee," like you said.  It's not confusing.

Random but I have a dog Zoe and cat Roxy!  I love the name Xoe and would be on my list. We just had a cousin name his daughter Zoe though.

Eh, what do I know about spelling? (She says pointing to her 'Brigid' and 'Marlowe'.) It's not like you stuck a "y" in the middle of Jordan or Juliette just for fun, LOL.

  • I love it. We have good friends who named their daughter Zoey and my cousin married a girl named Zoe. I love it spelled either way.

  • I knew a very cute 6yo named Zoe. She doesn't seem to have problems with people pronouncing it right (Zoee) instead of rhyming with Joe.

  • The name Zoe is very cute.  I think it's also the original Greek spelling of the name too, and not some variation like Zoey.  If I saw this name written down on something, I would pronounce it like Zoey, it would never occur to me to pronounce like Zo. But that's just me.

  • LOVE it! it was in our top 3 but our dogs name is Chloe so I just couldn't handle that :(
