What do you call the 'paci'?

Just wondering, I always read 'paci' on TB, but I only use that here so people will know what I am talking about. At home we call it a 'chooch' or 'choochie'... not sure why, think we got it from MIL. I have friends that call it a 'nu-nu'. Do you have a strange name for the paci in your house? What do you call it?

  • Pacifier....nicknames for them have always bugged me.    I gotta say, choochie sounds too close to a crude vag NN.

  • We don't use one, but I tried it in the beginning. I always knew it as a pacifier, but in England they call it a dummy, in Ireland they call it a soother.

I call it the mute button. God, I wish my kid took one.

I agree lol... we only use it with the family, but then again my IL's are known for being crude in general, so who knows. Wink And I have a son, so I don't think of it as much as I prob would if we had a DD!

  • Boring here, too. It's "paci" here.  My parents will sometimes call it binky, but other than that, we stick with paci.

Funny thing is, here, no one I know calls it a paci, that's why I was wondering if it seemed like more of a name used in the US? People will say the long form of 'soother' but usually everyone I know uses whatever stupid nickname your family has always used lol.

  • We call it a p-paw. That's what everyone in my family has called it forever. I have no idea how it got started but it has stuck with us.
  • The little boy I watch calls his a na-na.  So that has just stuck for DS because I swear I say na-na at least 50 times a day telling the 2 year old he can't have it now.

Same here, all of it, haha!

My MIL calls a blanket a binky and I always think she means pacifier (which LO never took to, so we don't even have any) and I get confused.  I have posted before about the weird words my MIL uses.  My least fav is "yammies" for PJs.  She has also started using the same word to refer to herself?  Lord help me.

  • I hate cutesie names for it with a fiery passion.  We call it the chupa, which is a variation of the Spanish word for it...like a sucker.

  • We call it a pacifier. Timmy used to call his "mine" and he calls Nicks "pass"

My inlaws use the phrase "ty ty" for getting tired. I'm glad they aren't around him influencing his speech developement that much.

This is funny because it struck me when my friend was over and she asked DS when it was nap time if he needed a 'doh-doh' lol... didn't love that, but then again, this coming from someone who says chooch and just told the entire interwebz July '11 world! ;)

  • We say paci, but I don't know why...I remember hearing someone at work talking about her kid's paci and I thought it was weird to call it that, I think it was soother or num-a-nums when I was little around our place.

  • Just pacifier.  But, I do call his Wubbanub Wubby.  I suppose that could be the cat attached to the pacifier's name, though, right?
