Success after IF

Mamas who had a c-section for breech baby then did IVF again for #2... come in!

Hi!

I have a breech baby and my OB booked me for a c-section yesterday for the end of June.  Now, I know there's plenty of time for her to flip since I'm just shy of 30 weeks, but I'm a little nervous regardless because I  *really* didn't want to go the c-section route.   I'd love to hear about your babies who ended up flipping!  I feel like it's creating more stress than necessary.

I guess my question is - did having a c-section affect doing your next IVF cycle?  I want to do my next IVF when this LO is 1 or so, and I am nervous about scar tissue affecting implantation, etc.  I already have 3 losses under my belt so I think it's just making me a little panicky.

Any input you have is so appreciated!

I had asked a couple of MFMs and my OB about whether or not having a c-section would affect future IVF or FETs, and they told me no.  I haven't asked my RE, since I won't be seeing them until we try for #2 sometime next year.

  • My baby flipped around 35 weeks but I still ended up with a c/s due to pre-e.

Also we did IVF for baby #2 when our LO was just turning 13 months.  So far so good!

  • Had c-section with DD. She was breech. Pregnant with twins from IVF #2. I don't think it makes a difference. Hopefully she flips for you though.

  • I had a c-section with DD from IVF#1 - not from breech but head not fitting in birth canal.  I did have an HSG and during my mock transfer I asked about the scar.  He said it was a non-issue and showed me on the screen where the scar was in comparison to where they would place the embryo and it seemed like miles away in terms of distance.  I wouldn't sweat it.
  • My baby B was breech until 34 weeks.  So if there is room for him to flip with two in there... your baby has plenty of time!

I did end up with a c/s anyway, and I did a FET this time around.  Before I cycled my RE did a saline sono to make sure I didn't have any scar tissue from my c/s.  It was all clear :)

  • My DD was breech which we did not realize until I was in labor and pushing (long story but crazy busy hospital that night etc.).     She ended up being a c-section.   When we were about to start IVF for DS I had an ultrasound that did reveal a bit of scar tissue that I ended up having removed before we proceeded with that cycle.   I think it is pretty unusual but we did still end up with another babe!     I really didn't want a c-section but obviously had to have one and all ended up just fine.   The recovery was not nearly as bad as I expected.   Good luck... hope your baby flips!
