December 2012 Moms

Ladies with pets (cats and/or dogs)

Have you noticed your pets being super clingy since becoming pregnant?

I've read it's kinda normal, but mine (two dogs, one cat) won't leave me alone! Especially the cat! He had to nap on my boobs/belly today while I was napping and purred the entire time. He NEVER does this, he's VERY hyper and I swear has ADD.

Anyone else? Or are my pets just weird (which really wouldn't surprise me Stick out tongue)

Re: Ladies with pets (cats and/or dogs)

  • P has definitely seemed to be more interested in me lately, wanting to snuggle more, following me more.   He's going to make a great big brother. :)

  • We have three cats and a dog - they have been MUCH more lovey since I got pregnant. One of them I call "my little nurse" because she normally hides but when I don't feel well she gets up in my lap and cuddles all night.

  • I have three cats and one of them in particular has became super clingy. Every time I walked into the kitchen today she would appear out of no where and demand my attention, walk between my legs, etc. So I just assumed she was hungry, but after I put food in her bowl she ignored the food and came back for me to rub her.
  • I have been sleeping a lot more lately and my goofy guy (I gel with him like we were made to be together)  has recently started getting in bed with me in the morning and nuzzling my chest (It feels like he is grinding bricks into my boobs). The other two dogs are same as usual.

  • My cat has been the most cuddly thing ever. He used to bother me at night with constantly trying to get me to pet him but now all he does is snuggle up and fall asleep. No matter where I am in the house he has to be near me and he needs me to pet him. He is usually very independent so it has been a big change, but I LOVE snuggling up to him all the time. I can't wait to see how he reacts to my growing belly.
  • Nah, my dog is the same big old oaf he's always been :)

    This sounds like my cat!

I'm hoping he stay cuddly after the baby is born. Or, if he snuggles with my belly and purrs like he did today (it was super loud) the baby will be able to hear it and it will be soothing for baby.

  • My Pom is super hyper as usually but he's constantly licking me now!

  • My cat WILL NOT leave me alone. As I speak shes at the foot of the bed laying on my feet. She follows me everywhere, and If I'm laying or sitting down, shes either under the covers with me or plopping down in my arms. My SO is annoyed by it, but I think its cute. she 16 and Ive had her since I was 6, So she always has loved me but this is just crazy!

  • My cats are not the most observant so I'm not sure. My girl cat has been snuggling more but she goes through phases of that anyway. They are petrified of my DD (she tortures them!) so if they have any clue, they are probably not so happy about it!

  • My dogs have always been extra protective of me. But my horses.... Are acting like nannies.lol. I barrel race, and so my horses are the type that are pretty hot and excitable, bu lately my one horse that I've had the longest and am closest too has been extra gentle - keeping himself between me and other horses in the pasture, making sure to not crowd me when I lead him, etc. He definitely knows.
  • Henri has always been a mama's boy :) but when I lost my baby back in February, he literally never left my side. Even slept in my "nook", when he normally sleeps at the foot of the bed. :) Since I'm pg again, he's taken to sleeping in between DH and I. He's my sweetheart.

  • I have two dogs and a cat. My cat is always super clingy, no different. I have a mutt border collie/lab mix and a pug. The mutt has been super clingy. She won't even let me go to the bathroom. It's funny, I had thought it was weird but it didn't even occur to me until I read this that my being preggo is why she's acting like this.

  • My cat, Ruben, isn't acting much different, yet. He loves to snuggle on me already and he has been demanding more attention, but we think it's because my sister spoils him with treats. :P

He has been extra snuggly when I'm sleeping, though, even for napping. He's going to be so mad when my belly gets big and he has no lap to snuggle on anymore!

  • Yep - both of our dogs have been extremely love-y to me lately. Last night, my dog Marly slept with his head on my belly on the couch. He never does that.

  • Actually, yes, now that you mention it.  Whenever I am sitting the past few days they have whined until I let them up on my lap.  Which is kind of odd to me because this isn't the first time I've been pregnant and I don't remember them acting this way the first time around.  Although that was eons and many sleepless nights ago so what do I know :)

  • We have 2 cats.  I haven't noticed a change in them.  They are both kind of need-y.  They follow us around the house, almost never in a room alone.  I call one cat DH's, because he will crawl up into DH's lap once in a while, but VERY rarely climbs into mine.  The other is a love bug, he is always sitting with us and in our laps.
  • Nope, they're both the same as they usually are. One is already super lovey dovey and loves to cuddle, so I don't think it's possible for him to be any more clingy.

  • Oh, my dog is extra obsessed with me. He follows me everywhere (including the bathroom!) lol
  • It's hard to say. My three kitty sons have always been very attached to me, but I think they're more so now. DH says they're the same, but it seems like they can't let me out of their sight now!

  • I have a German Shep Mix and a Aussie Shep mix, and they both are super clingy to me now. It took my Aussie a while to be ok with my "condition" tho. :) Snickers my German knew before I did. He was alllllllll up in my business and following me around everywhere. They are both very calm, patient and wiggly around me now. I love it.

  • The pugs, in general, are already real cuddle bugs. However, I have noticed the two of them needing to be right up against my side in bed as of late, however. Usually one of them sticks to DH, the other to me.

  • One of our dogs has completely changed.  He has always been DHs baby but lately he is prone to following me around more than DH and when I lay on the sofa he jumps right up and wants to be as close to my belly or boobs as he can.  It's too cute, but DH gets jealous.  Wink
