Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Is this normal? WDYT?

So today when I picked up Cannon at day care, he was sitting on the ground (hadn't seen me yet) and then one of the other kids walked over to him, took the paci out of his mouth and stuck it into cannon mouth. YUCK! So of course I yell "stop it little kid" the part time teacher walked over and took the paci. She acted like it was nothing.

Maybe it is? I'm not use to this daycare thing. Is this normal behavior? or would you say something?

Re: Is this normal? WDYT?

  • Uh, this is normal behaviour.

They probably share sippy cups, too Smile

  • DS doesn't go to daycare, but the kids in his story time group do this all the time. Same with the church nursery. And like PP said, they always try to share sippy cups, too.

  • Thanks! I know it seems like a dumb ? but I seriously have no idea how it goes. He's been in daycare for 3 weeks.
  • Yeah, it happens. My DD is the paci thief of her room. Luckily I guess, she just likes to play keep away, she doesn't put them in her mouth. Hopefully the teachers try to stop it when they can. They just don't have a free hand all the time unfortunately!

  • Normal, and I'd be annoyed if someone yelled at my kid over this.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • (Didn't read other responses...)   This is why our daycare has a no paci/no sippy policy.  They can have a paci at naptime in their crib/cot only and sippys at the table/high chairs.

Our daycare seems to have this rule too, though I never thought much about it since DD never used a paci much and had completely outgrown it by the time she started daycare.

  • Completely normal.  In Liam's room they take each other's sippy cups, try to share paci's and slobber all over toys and then offer them up to friends to do the same.

Daycare is full of germs and toddlers spread them like wildfire.  If you worry too much about it you're just going to drive yourself bonkers.

This. Even with a no paci rule they will be sharing toys that have been slobbered on. It is what it is. OP-Did you really yell at the kid? That seems a bit ridiculous to yell at someone elses kid for putting a pacifier in your kids mouth.

I don't think this rule will help as much as you think. Even when they were sitting around the table the kids in DD's class would swap sippy cups all the time when she was in the young toddler room.

For now, he's in the 12-18 mo room and they still have high chairs.  In the 18 mo - 3 room they use regular cups.
