Tracking numbers are useless - I have decided...

They don't update nearly fast enough to accurately track my beloved fluffy mail. I know my package has moved in the last twenty four hours - but the tracking doesn't reflect that. Often a package arrives on my doorstep (woot woot) before the tracking reflects that it has left the state of origin. What good is that?!

My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.

  • Totally agree. I've given up on tracking packages. I used to try to intercept before my DH got to them (he rolls his eyes with all the fluff mail). Now I just forget about them - it's an awesome surprise when they do show up!

  • Ive been toldmby my coop that it is delivery confirmation, not tracking and only certain post offices scan them to track them. (bigger ones)

This makes sense. Although some stores send it as a "tracking" number. Shame on them if that isn't what it is.

  • USPS tracking is just delivery confirmation.  It might even show up in the system before the postal service receives the package, so it really is useless as anything other than delivery confirmation.  FedEx tracking numbers actually do track the package at each step.  This is frustrating for DH when he orders stuff from Apple.  It will show the package leaving Hong Kong, getting to Anchorage (where we live), leaving Anchorage, going to one of their hubs, then returning to Anchorage for delivery.  We eventually figured out that it must be in bulk packaging that needs to be unloaded at the hub and then distributed.

  • I must have a great hub for both. They're always accurate. But my FedEx driver sucks. He's left "sorry I missed you" slips with earlier times then he actually arrives, and doesn't knock. I prefer the UPS guy.

  • There's been times that I've received the package before the tracking number updated. Fail.

At least he leaves things at your door and not some random neighbor's. That's what happens to us, all the time. It's annoying.

That's happened too... But I'm pretty sure his boss made him regret that. I work from home, and it was valuable product. I was not happy.
