C-sections

seems like my uterus is still large and high up

with my first c-section, i still had a stomach afterwards but nothing like this. i know i am only 5 days post partum but i cant help to notice that I still look very pregnant (not the flab of skin, but uterus up high and pregnant).  It (my upper stomach) hurts to touch.  At first I just thought it was bloat and gas, and I guess it still can be, but it's just weird. If i didn't already go through this i would think it was "normal".  I plan on asking at my appt next week but wanted to know if anyone had something similar.

(while in the hosptial, I did mention to them that when they pushed on whatever they pushed on , that it hurt, and they didn't bat an eye)

Re: seems like my uterus is still large and high up

  • My uterus stalled at just around my belly button for several days PP.  At 9-10 days PP it started moving down again and now at 2 weeks PP it's just above my pubic bone (hard to tell with my scar now).  I think this is the fastest it's ever gone down too (3rd DC).

They pushed on my stomach after my DS was born and it honestly hurt so bad that with out me actually crying sent tears down my face. They didn't seem to care either. The thing that made me the most angry about that is that they didn't warn me at all before doing it.

  • It can take 4-6 weeks for your uterus to completely go back down.  It is normal for it to hurt when they push on it, as it causes contractions.

  • I had similar concerns at a week out and had my OB nurse friend check my uterus. It was just fine even though it felt high to me (belly button level). It's continued to shrink slowly downwards. Just takes time! And the hurting with palpation in the hospital is normal.
