Bottle or Solids first?

In the morning, what do you do first?

If you give solids first, how did you break the "have to have a bottle" trend?

Right now we do bottle first and solids an hour or so later, but I know at some point she won't get a bottle anymore so just wondering...

We actually do both at mealtimes, usually starting with a bottle, then solids, then finishing off the meal with the bottle.

  • I do breast, but same idea.  I feed him from me first, then get breakfast ready.  I want him to fill up on the calorie rich breastmilk and not solids.

  • At this age, babies should be getting their nutrition from BM/formula. You don't want them filling up on solids and then not taking in enough BM/formula.

I BF first and then give him solids.

  • I serve a "conservative" amount of solids first, and then bottle. He knows the main course (bottle) is coming next. I just don't overdo it with the solids. He's in the 50th for weight and 75th for height. I owe my gratitude to wal mart's formula. haha.

We do a bottle first and then solids and hour or so later.  We also do a sippy cup with solids.  I usually give her 1-2 oz of water.  Pedi said we should start to introduce this during meal times and not the bottle.  She doesn't always drink the water but she is getting really good with it.

  • Bottle first, solids bfast an hour or two after. When we dropped bottles for DD1, we dropped the AM bottle first and replaced it with bfast and a milk sippy, but not until she was 12 months old and weaned to whole milk.

  • We nurse first then offer solids about 30 minutes later.  The BM/FF is more important for their growth and development until they are a year old.  They will consume more solids as they get closer to that year mark.  My two other children were eating full meals (what we were eating just cut up small) by the time they were 11 months old but always got their milk first.  Around that 11 month mark, we started transitioning to WCM so they would drink less formula and eventually by 12 months they weren't offered a bottle but rather WCM at meal time in a cup.

  • Bottle first then immediately after she gets breakfast (cereal and fruit).

  • DS doesn't eat solids until lunch and dinner time. He gets bottles on a regular basis but when it is time for him to eat solids we feed him the solids then offer a bottle when he is finished eating. We use this method as it was recommended by his pedi. He is still getting 26 oz of formula a day even though he is getting solids twice a day.

  • The night before, I get everything ready to go.  Her jar of food/spoon is waiting by her high chair. When I hear her get up, I start the water in the microwave and drop her bottle in(I EP) before I even get her up. I let it sit in the water while she's changed and eating solids. She eats a jar and then drinks 5 oz milk. She's never been fussy about not getting her food right away when waking up though.
