chiropractor and ear infections?

Background- Lily had a doctor's appointment this morning to check on her ears again (she had 2 double ear infections within the month of March).  Today, he still saw fluid and did an airpuff test on the ear.  They found that she still has a lot of fluid (3 weeks after her antibiotics) and it's to the point where her ear drum is barely moving with sounds.  They referred me to an ENT specialist to talk about having tubes put in her ears.

I was talking to someone today about Lily possibly having tubes, and she said that she went through the same thing (with numerous ear infections) with both of her children.  Instead of doing surgery, she took her kids to a chiropractor.  She said that they had not had any ear infections since.  I was looking through the research, but it is all a little overwhelming.  Has anyone else ever heard of using a chiropractor to get rid of ear infections?

Re: chiropractor and ear infections?

  • I haven't looked into it for ear infection, and I would think it would be worth a consult with a pediatric chiroprator before the tubes.

I am amazed atm with the amount of things chiros are able to help with. I was at the dentist not too long ago and was reading how ppl have been getting kids with asthma adjustments and it is working very well. Some kids have grown up and still have not had any major asthma problems. I'm looking into this for myself. I cannot go a day without my inhaler so any improvement would be nice.

  • Absolutely I think it could possibly help. We have taken Brynn to the chiro a couple times since being born when she has seemed 'fussy' or after a hard fall (learning to stand hanging onto things.) Not that I can say that it's for sure related but she has also never had an ear infection (knock on wood!) Just be sure that you find a pediatric chiropractor, they have additional training and don't use the same methods on infants and toddlers as they do on adults.

  • I have actually heard that it can be helpful as well. I think a consultation is at least worth a shot!

Fellow asthmatic here. If you are taking an inhaler every day (and not a long term one) you need to see your doctor b/c it is NOT well controlled. Also, make sure you see a specialist. You might be able to find triggers like allergens which you can try and avoid or take something to help.

I liked my chiro when I was pregnant but I would be VERY wary of using adjustments for something you can die from. Asthma is not something to 'deal with'. You really need to make sure it is under control. Both of my parents had friends die from ignoring symptoms. (They died in their sleep). It was awful.

  • I don't have any experience with ear infections and Chiro but I would def try it out and go for a consult. A good chiropractor can do amazing things!

  • We have had success with GI problems, headaches, and morning sickness (that one was for me obviously) to name a few. A good friend of mine who had major success with ear infections with her DD.  Her Dr suggested tubes, and she went to the chiro, I think for 6 months, and after that she hasn't had a single infection.  While she was being treated she did get 2, but her case was pretty bad, and it takes time for you body to readjust and balance.

I think I should knock on wood before I say this, I have my kids adjusted once every month or two (more often if they get sick) and they have been VERY healthy kids, and we haven't had a single ear infection, ever.  Maybe it's good genes, but I contribute some of their "healthiness" to visiting the chiro.  Please do your homework and find a good one, just like any profession there are some awesome ones out there, and then there are some crazies.  GL
