I had to change LOs diaper the other day after church -- I just laid him down in the pew on a blanket and changed it. I've also taken him to the car and changed him if I was out and about. If there's a will -- there's a way
Yep, I do it anywhere. Especially with my 19mo old. She won't lay down to have her diaper changed and it's actually the LEAST annoying to just change it wherever she stands. Literally, stands. We change her standing up.
Now, that's just for pee diapers. Poop diapers are a different story.
People don't say anything? I am beyond scared to change diapers in public. :...(
You'll get over this
I always put something under them and either take the dirty diaper with me or take it to the bathroom. I think the only gross thing about it is leaving a dirty diaper somewhere where someone wouldn't expect to see one.
I don't think it's a big deal at all, especially at this age. They're babies, not like they're 3 yr olds. I change DS in the car trunk or on a bench or wherever I can if need be. I just put a changing pad down. I don't even think twice about it. I wouldn't do it in a restaurant at the table while people eat, but I pretty much will do it wherever.

THANK YOU for saying you would not do it in the middle of the restaurant! I am a server and the amount of times i've seen people do this is mind boggling. How do you possibly think this is ok? any other place.. yeah i get it , it needs to be done.. but this is somewhere people are EATING! ahhhhh i cant believe people sometimes.. vent over

haha, yeah, i'm sorry i didn't clarify. i do have my limits. i wouldn't do it in a restaurant. or on a table.
i did do it on a couch in a funeral home. a funeral home that didn't have a changing station in the bathroom. and, it was my grandfather's viewing. and my baby was only 2 weeks old. AND, i asked my mom if she thought it was ok first!
If I'm in someone's house, I will change DD's diaper on the floor on a blanket. Random places on the floor? no. I usually do it on my lap since DD is still small enough for that. I've done it in my car a few times.
I agree with not doing it where you eat.

Put them on your lap with their head between your knees and butt towards you. Lift butt, take off old diaper and put new one on. I'll change diapers anywhere - our diaper bag has a changing pad for when I need to change them on the floor or counter somewhere and I actually prefer lap changes to a changing table because changing tables can be nasty. If people have a problem with me changing a diaper somewhere they can deal with it.
I was just having this debate about public diaper changes with my husband. We were at a restaurant without a changing station and headed across the street to a busy farmers market in a park. He wanted to take our daughter back to the car to change her, but that was a few blocks away and since I was the one wearing her on my chest in the baby carrier, I didn't want to risk the diaper leak. He was so worried about someone "seeing" her 4 month old parts. As I knelt down on the grass at the park to change her, I told him to look out for weirdos (to make him feel better, haha). By the time he openned his mouth to protest, I was done. I think sometimes as first time parents we are so protective and worried and forget that the world isn't paying that much attention to you or your baby's naked bottom! I have changed my daughter in her stroller a number of times when I have been out. I would prefer her stroller or a changing pad on a bench over those yucky bathroom changing stations any day!
I usually go to the restroom for changes. If they have a changing in station I use that with her changing pad on it. If they don't I do it with her pad on the floor in the handicap stall so that I'm not in the walkway.
Lap, stroller, car seat....wow. My babe wiggles a lot when changing, so I need a flat surface. I guess I need to practice. I'm afraid to make a mess (slight OCD)
I can do it on my lap too. I do it side ways. I lay little one across my lap. Head on Mt left leg Torso on my right. I lay the new diaper under the baby's diaper before taking it off. Get wipes readyFor my right hand. Take diaper off and hold legs up with left hand, wipe with right and pullOff old diaper with used wipes in it. Then fasten new diaper.

I tend to try and find a quiet corner out of the way where not too many people will see me. My diaper bag has a changing pad always, so I will use that to provide a little comfort and cleanliness. I also keep the Arm&Hammer diaper bags to put the diaper in, either back in my diaper bag or in the garbage. That way I'm not walking around with a dirty diaper and the bags are scented, so you don't get rank diaper smell.
I will change DD just about anywhere besides restaurants. If we aren't at home, I'll just do it in my lap. DH has never protested to where I changed her diaper before, but I tried changing it in our Sunday school class and he almost lost it. I don't know if he thought it was weird since we were sitting in a big circle and everyone would see or if he thought it was inappropriate, or it was going to be a distraction. So instead of doing a 30 second diaper change on my lap that no one probably would have noticed or cared about, DD starts crying (she hates wet diapers) and I have to stand up walk across the circle and take her into the hall to change her, then walk back in across the circle to sit down. Yes, that was so much better.
I'll change our lil guy in the back of the car or on a changing mat or towel on floor, bed .. whatever.. but my pet peeve is parents who change diapers in their car then open the door and dump the dirty diaper and leave it there.
I am British ..been here over 10 years now and it still amazes me that parents here will buy shoes or toys or whatever and open them up in the carpark and just dump the packaging and trash out the door. Same with fastfood trash... WTF kind of example is that !!
So I tried changing my babe on my lap at home. It worked! It's not hard at all, but if it contains solid....I'm not sure. Perhaps I need to practice more.
Regardless, thanks for informing me. Hopefully babe will know to poo at home only :P
I live in NYC, so we don't own a car; therefore, changing in and on top of the trunk is outta question. Now can I change her on top of someone else's car? j/k

Uh oh... totally guilty. AND I used to be a server for 6 years. It was SO hot outside I wasn't about to go out to the even hotter car to change him. Hey... that's the restaurant's fault for not having a changing table! I wiped it off before, put down a changing pad, and wiped it off after. Its JUST baby poop! And I promise it didnt touch the table!

My brother is so gross. We were at DisneyLand and sat down for some breakfast. He changed his baby right there at the table while we were all eating. Yes, it was outside, but still we were in an eating area with tables and chairs. We were all pretty shocked, but nobody said anything. I am pretty sure I could never do that.
