I have a few random questions that have come to mind today...
1. I will be 32+ wks at my Dr. appt tomorrow--any ideas of what to expect? I haven't had any sort of "checks" so far. I know not all Drs do internal checks, but if yours did, when did it happen the first time? I just feel like I go to my appt every time and hear the heartbeat (which I love) and then get my quick measurement and that is it. I just feel like there should be more?
2. Do newborns wear hats even in the summer? I have one or two little caps, but I didnt know if I need more? Do they really just wear hats at the hospital?
3. I got a wedding invitation in the mail the other day for Sept. 1. I'm due June 11, so baby girl will be about 10 wks old. Is it reasonable to think I might be able to go? It is a 5 hour drive and I would want to bring Tinsley with us...just not sure if I would be over committing myself?
Thanks for your help!
Re: A few questions for today
I will be 32 weeks at my appointment tomorrow as well. Not sure if they will do anything different....??
I bought our little girl a sun hat
I also have 2-3 around the house hats.
I would think by Sept 1st you would be ok to travel. I am due June 14th and we are flying with our baby August 12th to Minnesota. My friend flew to a wedding in California when her baby was 3 months. She said it was hard, but it was for a good friend, so worth it.
1- my OB starts them at 34/35 weeks (the internals). As for the apps now - same thing, asks how I'm doing, if there is any pressure/pain/BH, measures belly, listens to heartbeat - asks if I have any questions and then I leave. All in all - I'm in the office about 15 mins or so, unless I have questions.
2 - I guess it depends on where you live. We live in SoCal - near the desert, so it gets REALLY HOT here in June. I plan to blast the AC on the way home from the hospital. Since LO's head releases a lot of heat - we'll be bringing a hat just in case. Always better to have one or two. I also bought three decorative ones lol I couldn't help it - they were so cute!!
3 - As for this I'm not sure. You may have to get answers from second time moms or someone who knows a little bit about this.
1. You are right in that some do and some don't do checks. I went for my GBS test around 35 weeks and I think the only reason she checked me then (besides the fact I was undressed waist down), was that I had been having a lot of BH contractions. I went on to deliver my daughter the following week, so I don't know what would have happened with my appts had I gone all the way to 40.
2. My DD1 was a fall baby and DD2 will be summer. My plan is to have maybe 1 or 2 light cotton hats for colder rainy days, but that is probably it.
3. Are you planning on bf'ing? If so, you might want to put that into consideration. You might need to find a place to pump or nurse the baby, a place to do that (if you aren't comfortable nursing in public). Your baby will be almost 3 months old, so hopefully by then you will have gotten into the swing of things as a mom. Would I bring my 3 month old to a wedding....sure. I would also though arrange for maybe a family member to be on standby to watch your baby if you want to get out for a little bit sans baby...either before or during the wedding or if you wanted to stay out a little bit later for the reception.
Goodbye little angel(7/22/2011)....see you in heaven
Goodbye my second angel (9/18/2011)
1. I have no idea when my OB starts these. I am assuming it is when I start going once a week.
2. I have 3 light hats that came with outfits. Considering it is only April and we have hit the high 80s multi times in the past month I think we are in for a hot summer.
3. We have a wedding on July 28th that DH is in, which is a little over an hour away. We will be leaving LO with my parents for the night, which kills me already but shouldn't be too big of a problem LO will be almost 2 months old by then. We also have a wedding the weekend after where we are leaving LO with FIL but only for a few hours not over night.
1. I am also going for my 32 week appt tomorrow, and I think I remember my OB saying she started the checks at 35/36 weeks (whenever weekly appts start).
2. I have sunhats for the baby, and also some little cotton caps. My situation might be a bit different though, since we plan to spend a good part of the summer at our cottage. It's right on the ocean and it gets pretty chilly there at night so I figure hats are a good way to keep LO warm at night. (Plus who can resist those caps with the bear ears?)
3. I'm due on the 10th and we have weddings 7/7, 28/7, 11/8, 8/9, 28/9, and one in October. LO will be coming to all of them and most are a 4-5 hour drive away. My plan is to wear him in a sling most of the time, sit in the back/side for the ceremony so I can slip out easily, scout out good places for breastfeeding in advance, and be willing to leave the reception early if it is getting too much for him.
1. I believe my Dr will do checks around 35/36 weeks, but only if I want/request them. I have no intention of getting them, as they do not give you any info pertaining to when you'll go into labor. I'll only get one if I have a concern about something "down there".
2. We always do sunhats outside and depending on how high the a/c is cranked, will also do the knit caps in vehicles and indoors with a newborn, as they are unable to regulate their own body temp.
3. As far as the wedding invite goes, I would rsvp with a "maybe" and let her know you'll give her a more definite answer after your LO is born. She should (hopefully) understand and she won't need a final head count until a couple weeks before the wedding. Around the first week of August you should have an idea on whether or not you'll be up for the trip w/ your LO.
1) Sounds like your appointments are just like mine - pee, measure, heartbeat, weight, questions. My doc starts internals at 36 weeks, which is also when he does the group B strep test.
2) I'm a FTM too, but I got a couple of simple hats that weren't expensive.
3) You need to check with the bride on this one. Are other children allowed/going to be there? Make sure she is ok with you bringing your LO before making major plans. If not, are you able/willing to make alternate arrangements for LO? And as a previous poster stated, consider how it will impact you if you are BFing.
1. I just had my 32 week check up and there were no internals - it seems more likely that they start those closer to you being full term (around 36 weeks)
2. It depends on the weather, but it's good to have some lying around for cooler nights or when you bring LO someplace very air conditioned. Also hats could be useful after a bath if the bathroom ended up being much warmer and steamier than the rest of your house.
3. I'm due 6/10 and also have a wedding to go to on 9/1 that's about 4 hours away. Unless something unexpected happens or there are issues, we are absolutely planning on bringing LO. DH's family lives even farther, so we might as well get used to extensive travel with her early on.
1. Mine will be the same - weight, B.P., fundal height and doppler. I think the only different appointment will be at 36 weeks for GBS.
2. A lot of those new born outfits come with them, so I have a few. But, DD barely wore one and she was born in December. You can also take the one from the hospital.
3. If you can bring the baby, it wouldn't be hard at all to attend a wedding at 10 weeks. Just give yourself plenty of time for the drive. 5 hours might end up being 7, but you'll get there.
