Hi ladies! Now that our little princess has arrived I would love to start posting over here. I know many of your from IF, IFV and PAIF so it will be nice to hear from many of you again and to meet lots of new people.
Our daughter, Cassandra McKinley was born on March 10th at 5 lbs 15 oz. I had a very emotionally difficult pg since she was diagnosed with enlarged ventricles of the brain at 16 weeks. We were told that the vents would continue to get larger and would develop into hydrocephalus. We were not given a very good outlook and were told to expect major brain surgery, major developmental delays and health problems. Despite what all the doctors told us, the vents stabilized and never got any larger. So we were able to take surgery and the worst of the health problems off the table. We were so relieved but still worried about things.
After flipping head down at 39 weeks and a long induction at almost 41 weeks, my little girl was finally born. She was taken to the NICU because she was having some stressed breathing. A couple hours after arriving at the NICU they noticed some odd arm movements and after talking to the neurologist and hooking her up to an EEG they found out that she was having near continuous seizures. She was immediately admitted to the NICU.
Doctors were finally able to get the seizures under control with meds and after more tests than I can count, they determined that she had a small stroke sometime before birth. They also determined that it was due to an injury or oxygen loss event and not a blood clot or malformation of the brain.
Cassie then spent the next 4 weeks in the NICU being monitored and recovering. It was the worse 4 weeks of my life but I am happy to say that she came home on Good Friday and has been doing amazingly well since. She still has some hurdles to overcome and tons of follow up appointments but everyone continues to be amazed how far she has come given what she went through. Doctors that read her file before they see her can?t believe that she is the small baby on file, so I am very happy with that.
We have been home with her for just under two weeks and we are all busy adjusting. Her biggest hurdle (now and to get her home from the hospital) is eating. She had to learn to take all her feeds by bottle before she could come home (since it is really hard to BF in the NICU and I can't be there around the clock). So I was trying to BF her when she came home but I'm not really having any success with it. It seems like she has become used to the bottle nipple and I'm not sure how much longer I can continue to try while having no success, as it is stressing me out. I will try a little longer but I'm just happy she is getting the breast milk one way or another. I have a feeling I'm going to be an exclusive pumping Mom.
Anyway, thanks for reading and I can't wait to get to know all of you and learn from your collective knowledge.
Here are some pics on my little girl.

Congrats on your darling little girl Here eyes are precious!
In regards to EP, the bf board is a great thing - perhaps you have found it already. A lot of Mom's EP and they seem to just adjust to the concept. I didn't EP but am a working Mom so I pumped. A lot. One thing that happened to me is that when DD started taking bottles she started to neglect the breast. A lactation consultant said to try a nipple shield so that the nipple was a like a bottle. This worked like a charm. I would put it on, she would latch right away, she would get let down, then I would ever so gently move it mid-nursing - and she would latch right back on. I think the thing she didn't like was waiting for let down; another thing you can do is when you give her bottle is have her 'wait' to get the milk. Then she might not get impatient when you attempt to nurse her. GL and good for you for pumping all this time!

I pumped and bottle fed, if you have any questions or need any support - let me know. It's not always ideal, but it's the BM that is the most important. Hang in there!
