Born Free Glass Bottle vs. Dr. Brown's Glass Bottle

Hey ladies,

I will be breastfeeding exclusively halfway through my maternity leave and then pumping with bottles the other half to help transition when I return to work (after three months).

With that being said, we have chosen glass bottles since they are eco-friendly, safer for LO, and easier to clean/keep long term.

What are your thoughts between Born Free and Dr. Brown's?  These are the two I have decided to choose from and have heard good and bad with both.  I want to make sure it's a good brand, helps reduce gassyness, and easy to deal with.

Thoughts?  Thanks!

  • I never used Dr. Brown's glass bottles, just the BornFree, but we never had any problems with ours. I liked them.

  • I had chosen to use Dr. Brown's and had them ready for LO but LO decided he did not want them, we tried every bottle out there until he finally took Tommee Tippee and they were the only nipples he would take. Moral of the story, you may have some plans but LO may have others, so be flexible.
  • I had both and liked both. DS never had gas issues (it didn't matter which bottle he used). He did, however, have severe reflux. The Dr. B's seemed to help *some* with the reflux. The Dr. B's are a PITA to clean. I did it because it was better for DS but the others were so much easier to clean I wish I could have used them more.
  • I've only used the Born Free bottles but we've had no issues with them.

  • We haven't used either brand, but we did/do use glass and stainless steel bottles.  FYI, in our state, daycares aren't allowed to use glass bottles.  It specifies "unbreakable material" or something along those lines in the state guidelines.  We switched from Evenflo glass bottles to Pura stainless steel bottles when DD started full-time daycare.  The Pura bottles are compatible with various brands of nipples.

    BFP #2 4/9/12, EDD 12/16/12, M/C Rory 4/24/12.
    BFP #3 10/6/12, EDD 6/16/12., Matilda born 6/17/13.
  • We use both (approx 1 bottle of BM a day), and tend to grab the Born Free ones most often bc...

    1. They are slightly easier to clean (they don't need the narrow bristle brush to clean the inner piece)

    2. They hold 5 oz (versus the Dr B's 4 oz).

Both work well with our LO though. No leaks, etc. Hope this helps.
