So none of my friends IRL have either A. read it or B liked it... WTF?
I really have never put much thought in to BD.SM lifestyle/preference but it kind of fascinates me, and not really the kink factor (although it reading it has amped up my drive)
Anyway, I thin there is more to the book than getting it on. The whole time I was interested in what made them tick. Like as a D, he appeared to have control, but really she had the ultimate say as to what flies in the bedroom. Also, I think this type of 'relationship' demands an immense amount of trust. She has to trust that he will stop when she says, and he has to trust that she will stop him before it goes to far and damages the trust all together right?
Am I looking in to this too much? Is it just mom porn? LOL
Re: Fifty Shades Fans...Can we discuss a bit?
I liked the first book. I so-so liked the second book. By the third book, I was tired of the sex and was begging for some plot, so I can understand why friends IRL could possibly not like it. It' snot the best writing in the world.
I've definitely had some friends into BD.SM IRL, and on sites like sugasm . net you can find much better writing that, yes, it makes this book look like mom porn. The Savage Love column in The Stranger periodically has BD.SM topics in it that are enlightening. But then again, for lesser informed and indulged people, the book's an entrance so does it matter how "thorough" it is.
I teach AP English - so no definitely not the best thing I've ever read by far!! But what I really enjoyed was seeing him develop and watching her bring him out of himself. I thought it was a fairly decent romance (for lack of a better word) and yes like PP said by the third book the sex wasn't as important to me as who they were.
Mom porn - yea ok but I thought it was still fairly decent for 'that kind of book'.

I just finished reading the first book this past weekend & was left wanting more! The other 2 are on order from Amazon & will arrive Sat
I really liked the book & found that kind of lifestyle intriguing, kind of fascinating & it definitely peaked my interest in that "department"
I too am interested in the characters, who they are, how this story all plays out & what made Christian into the "dominant" character that he is.
I read yesterday that Universal has bought the rights to the story so they will be making a movie out of these books - now that should be something to see!!!

I imagine the movie would be sexually charged the way that Basic Instinct was, which also means they will likely have to cast a woman for the lead who is a basic unknown and willing to spend significant time naked... (Not to mention the fact that Ana is soooo young.)
