"Cheese" neck

My LO is a chunky monkey and when he drinks he is messy. His formula goes into his neck rolls and even though I clean him up, it still smells like curdled milk. I know powder is not advised... is there anything I can use to keep his little neck rolls dry?

Re: "Cheese" neck

  • We have a chubbly formula dribbler too! I made some cloth wipes by cutting up sheets made out of t-shirt material, and I have a container of them at the changing station. They are premoistened with a solution of mostly water with a little bit of baby wash and a little bit of olive oil (2 c water to 1 TBSP each of oil and wash). Every diaper change we clean his neck and hands off with a cloth wipe.

Tommee Tippee also make "dribble bibs" with a sort of foam roll around the neck part, and it's meant to prevent that, but honestly our sons neck is too fat for the bibs!

  • Corn startch works well to keep the folds dry but more so from sweat not formula. How old is your LO? One of the most prudent signs that your LO is ready for the next size nipple flow is when formula dribbles out the sides of the mouth indicating they are sucking too hard and not able to swallow the amount they are pulling fast enough. By upping the flow it makes so they don't have to pull as hard thus you won't get the overflow coming out of his mouth.

He is 2.5 months. Thanks for the advice everyone. I will but some Medium nipples and see how it goes. I have one Fast nipple and he chokes with it.

I will also try the wiping him down each diaper change

  • There's nothing wrong with powder as long as you rub it in your hands first so the particles don't fly and baby doesn't breathe them in. We use it all the time after diaper changes and it's been wonderful in preventing rash.

  • We had that problem with DD1.  I would put a little Aquafor in her neck folds and that helped a ton!

I'm already armed with it for when it happens with DD2.

  • Ugh I hate the neck cheese-- it wreaks.  I bathe DS every 2 days or so which obviously helps and rub a little talc-free baby powder in his folds to keep them dry.
