More food questions...

Not trying to beat a dead horse with these but I still feel uncertain of what I can give Emma in good conscious. Tonight I'm make general tso's chicken from a seasoning packet...would you give that to LO.? I don't think it's necessarily unhealthy and I also don't think of it as a spicy dish but I know others would. And what about things like taco meat with seasoning or marinated chicken? Do you let LO eat that sort of food? She's had all sorts of herbs and spices and done fine with them. Am I just overthinking it too much now? I just want to make sure I'm not going to hurt anything by giving her more and more of the food we eat instead of cooking her stuff separately...I'm certainly not interested in turning into a short-order cook or sacrificing the yummy meals I make to make them more planned for the kids. BTDT moms, have you had to fix more bland meals since kids?

Re: More food questions...

  • We give A some of that stuff. If it doesn't seem too salty or spicy then I would. Like the packets that are just a blend of spices - I will give her food cooked in these. I find a lot of those spice packets to have a lot of other junk in them and a ton of salt though. So for those meals, I cook her meat separately. I completely understand where you are coming from with not wanting to make 2 meals. I think I will be more strict about that when she is older - I dont want her demanding something different than what we are eating. But for now, she's a baby and I'm just modifying foods to make them a bit healthier for her.

  • I give LO food with lots of herbs and spices.  The only things I avoid are things with very much salt or things that are spicy-hot.  I mainly avoid the spicy hot things because she ends up with her food on her face a lot and I don't want her getting cayenne pepper or something in her eyes.  If I am making something that is too hot or salty, I just take her part out before I salt it or put in the pepper.  I don't feel like that is really making two meals.
  • The only thing that would concern me is the sodium content.  Any other spices are fine in my book.

ditto this. Lexi rubs her eyes a lot around dinner time, so I try not to give her much that will burn her eyes. I keep an eye on her sodium level, so with something like general tso's chicken, I'm guessing you cook the chicken then add the sauce? I usually just take a few pieces of chicken out and put them on a separate plate before I add the sauce. (if it's pretty salty or spicy)

  • I ended up cooking some chicken for her separately and it was a good thing because dinner ended up being way too spicy. I guess I just need to trust my instincts more and keep reminding myself she's still a baby and I won't have to always cook separately for her.
