VBAC

VBAC information and research

I am meeting with my OB for the first time this coming Monday. I had seen a MW for my first pregnancy and for my first appointment for this pregnancy. She did not think the most pro-VBAC medical professionals would be for it but to do some research and discuss it with my OB. Can anyone point me in the direction of pro-VBAC information and research? My second child is due about 13 months after my son was born. I had a c/s with him because he was breech, but at the time that my water broke, I was already 4 cm so outside of the time between births. My MW said that I would have been a very good VBAC candidate.

  • Not sure if we have much info on interbirth intervals in there yet.  If I fnd anything good, I will post it for you.  There is another bumpie who had a VBAC 13 months after her c/s, I will see if I can get her to pop in here.

  • DD was born via c/s because she was breech. I met with a perinatologist today to go over the pros and cons of VBAC and RCS. Thankfully both my new OB and the perinatologist are pro-VBAC. This baby is due 13 months after DD and from what I've been told (a few times now) the time between pregnancies barely increases my risks of rupture, if at all. Every body handles pregnancy and surgery recovery so different so there's really no way to tell what's going to happen.

The dr today went over lots of sobering information for both procedures and had printed information from the Mayo Health website and WebMD on VBACs.

I did find a couple links that you might find interesting...

    https://www.americanpregnancy.org/labornbirth/vbac.html

    https://www.vbac.com/making-informed-decisions-about-vbac-or-repeat-cesareans/

I don't know if this helps at all. I'm confused about why your MW didn't think pro-VBAC OBs would be for it? You sound like you would be a good candidate...

  • Not sure where the sticky is (or what is says), but I found this article very helpful:

    https://consensus.nih.gov/2010/vbacstatement.htm

It isn't a pro-VBAC article written to sway you either direction, but it has ALL the facts and statistics from the medical community. It has a few surprising statistics in it, like risks to baby and mom after VBAC versus c-section, that are worth reading too.

  • My first two were 13.5 months apart and I had a successful VBAC. I did have to switch OBs to get it, but even the first OB said that the spacing was no reason to be concerned. According to him (and he btw was totally pro c/s and borderline anti vaginal birth for ALL, seriously) the latest research showed that the incision heals about as much as it's ever going to within weeks.

GL, and I hope you're able to find a supportive care provider! That really is the number 1 thing, IMO.
