We are taking little one in this afternoon. Is there anything you wish you'd known or done differently or had prepared before the first round of needles?
not for me. but I also don't think they're that bad and don't cry when she cries about them. I spend those few seconds trying to get her to focus on me and calming her down.
Give LO Tylenol beforehand. I didn't the first time and we had the worst day ever, all he did was cry and refused to sleep. For his 4-month shots I gave him a half-dose half an hour before the appointment and it was smooth sailing from there. He still cried while he was getting stuck, but did great the rest of the day.
It really wasn't too. Have tylenol on hand (lo ran a 102 fever that afternoon), but don't predose (unless pedi tells you to). The latest research is that the antigens in the vaccines don't work as well if you predose with tylenol before the first round (subsequent rounds are ok to dose before.)
This might be an unusual occurrence, but I was expecting to have her on a table holding her hands where she could see me. At our doctor though they had me sit in this huge chair with her in my lap. It was awkward.

This was us exactly too. I didn't give them at his 2 mo, & he was fine that night, but the next day he was miserable & very whiny. Had hard time sleeping. For his 4 mo I gave him Tylenol about an hour beforehand. He was perfectly fine after them. Could have had nothing to do with the Tylenol, but really, I don't it can't hurt. Oh & a warm bath that night might have helped too for all I know.

Yes, this exactly. I didn't give him any before his 2 month shots, because I wanted to check the dosing with our pedi. He had said for the next time, to go ahead and give him a dose before we come in, and it definitely seemed to help. The 2 months shots, he was super fussy all day and after his 4 month, seemed totally normal...
Done. I held her during the needles, She cried such a sad cry that the nurse teared up. Once it was over I nursed her during the observation period and she slept.
I nursed DS through his 2-month shots. He didn't cry until the second needle and settled back down very quickly. I don't think it could have gone any better.
I always nurse during shots. Nursing is like baby valium. And FWIW, I've never been clamped down upon, which I was terrified about the first few times!
