I've got a 70's afro going on..really groovy, although my husband might describe it a little differently...
. I've always been one to keep my vajayjay nice and trim which I was able to do the first couple of months but I've just let it go the last couple of months and now it needs some major landscaping. In the last couple weeks my Dh and I have been doing the deed and I just feel so unsexy with all that stuff down there..so I am thinking of going to get it waxed and I have NEVER gotten my lady parts waxed before...so my questions are:
1, What should I do to prep for it? I mean, do I walk in there with my fro' or should I try to trim it as short as possible before?
2. Being that my lady parts are a bit swollen (love being pregnant!), won't it hurt more?
3. When I call around to these salons, is there anything important that I should ask?
Any advice, tips is so very much appreciated! Thanks ladies! ![]()
Re: To all the mommas who wax..
Before you start calling around you need to decide how much you want gone - just the bikini line, or all the way to a Brazilian? Some salons that do waxing do not do brazillians. Do check reviews online - cheaper is not always better (in fact commonly the opposite).
As for trimming - that is more of a comfort thing. If you would prefer to trim yourself, go for it, if not - if the hair is on the long side they will trim for you before they get started. If you do trim yourself, don't go too short - there needs to be enough hair for the wax to grab.
Do take a tylenol about 30mins before your appointment. If this is your first time waxing, it will hurt and the tylenol will help a teeny bit. Keep in mind the pain is temporary and the results are totally worth it.
In terms of the pain - more or less than being non-pregnant - it being your first time - it's going to hurt. Some waxers are better than others and it hurts less, but there will be some pain. I have waxed pre- as well as during pregnancy and it is about the same.
When you call - let them know this is your first time - they will let your waxer know and they will be sure to walk you through what to expect and give you breaks if it starts to bet a bit much.
Personally, I would just make sure you are nice and clean before you go in and let them take care of the rest.
Like I said, not the most enjoyable experience, but totally worth it. GL!
1, What should I do to prep for it? I mean, do I walk in there with my fro' or should I try to trim it as short as possible before?--if you can trim with a buzzer before hand that will help decrease the ammount of pain, but leave at least a 1/4 inch so you get good adherance from the wax. Take 2 tylenol about 20 minutes before your appointment, and if they have "numbing cream" use that.
2. Being that my lady parts are a bit swollen (love being pregnant!), won't it hurt more? It depends on what kind of wax you are getting if you are getting a bikini wax it shouldn't be too bad, if you are getting a Brazilian it will hurt either way.
3. When I call around to these salons, is there anything important that I should ask? Ask if they have a technician who has experience with waxing woman while pregnant, they will likely have a swifter hand and be a little more gentle.
I used to wax myself (when I could see what I was doing), but I am thinking I will need to get this done about 3 weeks before I am due, so the doctor doesn't need to weed through to see the baby/check my progress.
Good Luck
The PP's have covered most of it.
I've also found it helps to do a body scrub the night before (not the day of...ouch, and obviously don't get overenthusiastic about the scrubbing). Make sure you get the groin/pantyline area (I also wax my legs and underarms, so those areas get it too the night before I wax.). Sugar scrubs with an oil base are usually gentler on than a salt scrub. Then do the same thing a week after waxing, with weekly body scrubs therafter until you go back for the next waxing. One of the people I went to for waxing recommended this, I have to agree she was right - found it helps prevent ingrown hairs (which you do NOT want rubbing against the elastic of your pantyline..) and seems to make the waxing go smoother.
You are going to feel so much better after you get waxed, truuuust me! My advice to you is the same as the above mommas mentioned. Have fun:)
I just got back from my waxing! It had been 2 months- EEKKKS!
I don't take aspirin, I go as is, and it doesn't hurt me. I didn't feel anymore sensitive than normal either. Just book the appointment and go! I get a Brazillian, but you may like to do Bikini, or somewhere in between. I spent $50 and am in the SF bay area.
Just go for it- trust me, you'll feel much better about the area down there!
I wax myself and I was able to do so until last month. I will try this week, so I am not sure how it will turn out. It doesn't hurt and I don't do any special prep, but I have been doing it for many years.
Make sure you wear comfortable underwear afterwards so you don't irritate the skin.
