Re-do Ferber with a toddler?

Anyone do this?  Ferber worked great for us at 4 months but this recent ear infection has destroyed my good sleeper.  I don't have the book with me right now as I was just borrowing it but did anyone have to re-do Ferber at 15 months?  Please help. I'm desperate for a night of sleep and some naps.

We did a little training when he was younger (little before year) and then every once in awhile if he got sick we'd spoil him and he'd need to be "reminded" how things should be :)  Never really took long for him to realize.  I would just go in, say that I loved him but it was time for night night in his crib.  Haven't had to do it for awhile but I don't think I'd hesitate to do it again at that age if you're sure nothing else is going on!

ETA: Good luck!  Hope you get some rest soon!

Thanks.  Nothing else going on.  She had her 15 mos appt today.  Ears are clear and no sign of molars.

  • Ugh, I'm sorry:(

We never did official Ferber, but a modified CIO at 14 mo for the first time. Since then we've had to 'remind' them a few times. Thankfully it only seems to take a few days, and the crying has never been more than 15-25 mins at a time. I think she might need a reminder. It will be harder on you, I'm sure:(

  • We have to do a little "touch up" once in a while after an illness, tooth, or traveling. It usually is quick and pretty easy. I would definitely re Ferber in your situation. Good luck!!!

  • We had to re-do it at 18 months when we got back from a week of co-sleeping on vacation.

It was totally painless and only took one night.  I think she was just convinced if she cried and pitched a fit that we wouldn't make her sleep in her crib.  She was wrong ;-)

  • ferber was successful for us at 8 months, and we've had to re-do it a handful of times after illnesses. at worst it has taken three days of ferberizing to get him back on track (and not as much crying as the first time around). it sucks but i think for some babies/toddlers it does need to be repeated periodically. my son so loves to sleep in my arms that once he gets a taste of it when he's sick, he raises hell trying to make it continue.
