Would you buy this second hand?

Mamas,

I am looking at a bouncer made by Fisher Price (my little lamb). The price is right - $20...but it is missing the mobile, and the owner can't tell me how old it is because she bought it from Once Upon a Child. (a consignment type store - not sure if it is local).

My mom is making a big deal about there being no mobile. Is it really that big of a deal?

Any idea how to tell the age of the product? I obviously will visually inspect for signs of wear/damage.

What do you think?

I think the missing mobile is a deal breaker for sure. That is the main thing that entertains them in those things! You could probably find one for the same price with a mobile, I would think.  Also, if you are the third user, asking 20 is too much, IMO.

This for sure! Thats a lot for something that is missing a pretty major piece. Keep looking, I'm sure you'll find something!

  • Thank you! I am a first time mom and wasn't sure if this was a big deal or not. Thanks so much!

  • My son never cared about the mobiles. However, I know he's a rarity. He rather would have watched us or the cats or the tv while he was in the bouncer. I wouldn't spend 20 on something that's been used at least twice without the mobile.

We have this seat.  DS was never really into the mobile, but it is a pretty major part.  One thing to note is this seat doesn't bounce.  It was great for naps, but I could only put DS in it if he was already asleep.  The "soothing vibrations" did nothing for him.  We ended up borrowing a cheap FP bouncer.

Exactly this for us too just FYI. We never used this seat, it was a waste for us. It looked so cozy but ended up borrowing a seat that actually bounced and he loved that one.

  • for $20 and a missing mobile, i probably wouldn't.  if you have the Once Upon a Child store near you, you can go there and buy one with a mobile for the same price.

  • The bouncer we bought didn't even come with a mobile and it was never an issue.... so I'd say no, not a deal breaker.

That said, I think $20 is way too much for something that was already purchased 2nd hand.

  • I wouldn't without the mobile and not for $20.   I picked up an older model of this one . . . identical except the pattern for $5 at our community yard sale.   Not a stain on it and the girl selling it was super sweet and her girls were clean!    She also threw in two extra bolsters for free!

We put batteries in it and the it worked perfect even the music still plays.

  • Yes, a bouncer is something we would get used. If it doesn't have any recalls on it, does the age matter? It doesn't to me. But, to answer your question, many baby products have tags on them that contain the year of manufacture.  We don't do toys that move of their own accord, have batteries, etc., so I would just take off the mobile anyway, if it were me. Having baby look at movement out a window or a ceiling fan is more our speed. That said, you can probably find a used basic bouncer for less than $20. I think this seller seems stuck on what the product was rather that what it equates to now.
  • My son hated the toy bar on our bouncer (I think it was too stimulating with it being right in his face), so for me it wouldn't be a deal breaker (though I have no idea how much they go for).  And yes, it is something I would consider buying used.  I will say we paid $25-30 (new) for our FP one and it was great, even without the toy bar.
