Breast pad question.. disposable or washable?

Hi ladies,

I have both, but I find the disposable ones make me sweaty (worried about bacteria/yeast infection?) and the cloth ones aren't reliable for going out (leak through).  I tend to use the cloth ones at home and the plastic-backed ones for going out.  I just ordered some more cloth ones, bamboo, on ebay.

Which do you prefer?  Any good brands to recommend?

I should add, I still have oversupply issues and during feeding I stuff a rag in my bra as NEITHER type of breast pad will contain the leaking.  omg!

Re: Breast pad question.. disposable or washable?

  • I've always used disposable. I was actually told to switch if I wasn't already using them when I had yeast because it can live in the washable ones and be harder to get rid of. I change the disposables maybe 3x a day even if they're not that saturated. Once I get out of the leaking stage then I stick to one pair a day.

  • Washable!  For me the disposable was super irritating.  Check out bamboobies.

  • I also have both. I was able to use the washable during pregnancy, but after my milk came in my oversupply has made it pretty much impossible to use the washables for any extended period of time. I also blow throw the disposables during feedings, I completely understand where you're coming from with that one!

I have heard that bamboo is more absorbent. Let me know if you end up liking those! Wish I could be of more help. I'm the same boat as you.

  • So I'm lurking here from May since I'm getting excited to meet lo but I thought I'd add my two cents. For those of you who are blowing though a pad while feeding my mil taught me a trick when I was learning how to nurse and for me it was the most useful thing anyone told me. When you latch lo on and you start to feel your milk let down hold very tight against the breast you are not feeding from almost holding your nipple in. Most of the time it keeps the milk from letting down so hard on that side which helps with the leaking and the overfull feeling. Hope this helps

  • I've been using both. The disposable ones I have don't stay in place well so I actually prefer the washable ones. So far, they've contained most of the spillage.

  • I'll be using washable ones that have a leak proof liner on the back of it.  Not sure what the brand is but a local shop called The Green Bambino has them and they might have the brand posted.  Also, I am very lucky and DH's aunt makes them.
