My LO was born at 36 weeks with a head size of 13". He had IUGR but his head size wasn't affected by it at all. I didn't realize that normal size is between 13-14" at term so I'm a little concerned what the next baby might be like.
I know all babies are different, but does anyone know how the head growth is for that last month of pregnancy? If my month early baby had a normal size head, I am scared as to what a month extra can do!
Re: Silly question about head size..
I can't imagine the head would grow as quickly as the rest of the baby does at the end. Just keep telling yourself that your body knows what it's doing and except in extreme cases you will not grow a baby that can not fit.
By the way DD's head has always been in the 25th percentile, she just has a smaller head. Seems like a great thing and her head came out nicely. But as the rest of her was coming one of her shoulders briefly got stuck and I ended up with two second degree tears. My point is, there's no sense in worrying about what you can't control
Both of my kids had 14.5 inch heads. The first time I tore and the second time I did not, but both came out just fine. ::shrugs::
Their heads are not like ours yet- they are softer and the plates can overlap and so they squish a bit (i.e. cone heads)...It is part of the great design of our bodies and theirs that makes this whole birth thing so amazing.
