Jogging strollers

My husband and I are talking about starting to do 5Ks together after LO gets here.  I used to run in high school, but hate it now, but since I have to do it anyway, we thought we'd push ourselves and find something we can do together.  We had originally decided not to get a jogging stroller, but with this new challenge, we'll need one.  I've tried to do some research, but there are so many with good reviews.  Do you have any recommendations?  My husband says price isn't an object, but I disagree.  I REALLY don't want to spend a ton on one.

Oooo I've never seen a jogging travel system.  That would be awesome because I thought I wouldn't be able to have a little, little baby in one.

  • BOB strollers are the be-all, end-all jogging strollers.  If you are serious about jogging and price doesn't matter, definitely get a BOB.

Also, I am/was a 5k-er myself, and after having DD, I noticed that many (if not most) races won't allow strollers.  So before you sign up for anything, be sure to check to see if strollers are allowed.

  • We registered for the city mini jogging stroller. I like how light it is and easy to maneuver. I plan on doing at least two 5k's in the months after little man is born. If you're really serious about jogging/running with the stroller on a daily basis, you want a stroller that has a fixed front wheel and bigger wheels (more like bicycle size wheels). It will hold up better after time. We chose the city mini because I don't plan to run every day and I want it to travel well. :o)

That's a good point.  Thanks!  I wasn't even thinking about taking him with us to the 5Ks and really more for every day running, but it's good to know because I wouldn't have thought about that!

  • We have a Baby Trend Expedition that we found on clearance at Target.  It was $50.  I've run miles and miles with it in the last year (3 miles approx 3x a week up until recently), and have never wished I would have spent more.  BUT, we always run on paved paths.  If you are going to be running on dirt, grass, gravel, etc you may want to spend the money to get a BOB, which has suspension and is made for all-terrain.

In terms of jogging with a newborn, we were able to snap our Graco Safeseat right into the Baby Trend stroller.  You won't be cleared to run until at least 6 weeks after delivery anyway, but I ran with my DD in our makeshift travel system as soon as I was cleared.  I would be very hesitant about running with a newborn on rough or bumpy roads, but on a paved path, you should be fine.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the City Series from Baby Jogger is not intended for jogging.  Baby Jogger has other jogger strollers though.

  • I got a Bumbleride Indie on clearance and I will be able to snap my infant seat into it.

Had money been no object though, I would've gotten a BOB. Not because I'm a runner (I'm not) but I like the way they look/handle.

  • my h is a runner and his sports med dr suggested the bob. the dr uses it himself for running and likes it.

we bought it from amazon, cheaper than target at the moment.

  • I've run 5K races with the BOB and have done 10K runs with that stroller too.  It handles really well.  Whatever you buy, make sure it's a true jogging stroller.  Some look like a joggin stroller, but aren't intended for running.  Also, most jogging strollers recommend waiting until the baby is 6 months before you jog with it.

  • I'm registered for the baby trend jogger travel system at target. It's got amazing reviews and is only $200!
