Solids question

When I've seen posts about feeding and solid schedules I rarely see anyone comment that solids are given after the last bottle of the day.  Is there a reason for this?  Harder to digest?  Or is it just a big no no?

Just curious as I try to sort out our schedule.

Re: Solids question

  • I think it's probably mostly a function of not wanting to mess with the bedtime routine that a lot of people already have in place before starting solids.  Lots of kids nurse to sleep or have a bottle before bed as part of a routine, so that bottle or nursing session stays once solids start.  I think I've usually heard that bedtime tends to be the last bottle dropped when weaning off bottles completely, too.

  • We give solids at regular meal times - bfast, lunch, dinner - and the last bottle after dinner. That bottle is kind of a bedtime snack, I guess. For DD1 it was part of her bedtime routine, so it was the last bottle we dropped. For DD2, she sometimes plays a little between bottle and bedtime, so it's not part of her routine, but it's just how the schedule falls.

  • We're only on 2 "meals" a day, which I tend to do at breakfast and lunch. Since .we're on only 2 meals but 4 bottles, there's really no need to do a "meal" after the last bottle, especially when my LOs go to sleep for the night right after that last bottle.

  • Easy: I don't want a poopy diaper overnight!  If I feed him too late, than he poops overnight!  :)

Dear God, Since I couldn't hold my little one in my lap and tell him about you, could you hold him in your lap and tell him about me?

  • LO goes to sleep with a bottle (even for naps) so that's why we don't. He gets solids about an hour before bed and still takes the 6 oz bottle.

  • Thanks ladies!  Very helpful!

  • I give LO solids at 8pm and that is his last feeding for the day. We haven't had any problems!

  • She eats a jar at her last feeding at 7pm, following by 5 oz milk. Sometimes she has a poopy diaper in the morning and sometimes she doesn't
