Oops put my foot in my mouth at Storytime...

I went to the library with the kids today.  There was a Mom and her daughter in the elevator with us.  I asked her what her daughter's name was.  My kids have played with her at Storytime and I wanted them to say Hello. 

Anyway, I asked what her name was.  It was Holly Jean.  Then I said "Good morning Holly."  The mom said "NO!  IT'S HOLLY JEAN!"  And then walked off the elevator in a huff.  Oops!  I am notorious for nicknaming...and crossed the line:) 

Looks like no playdates with them!!

    that seems like a silly thing for her to get upset about... if i gave my kids 2 names and someone called him by only one it wouldn't bother me.  it's not like you called her daughter "holl."  

    if she is going to act like that, you don't want to have play dates with her kid anyway!

    That is crazy!  I agree with Becca on this one. Seems like a very petty thing to get upset about.

      aww..you are too nice... I guess you shouldn't name your child with one of those tacked on middle names if you are going to freak when people use the first name....

    She's batshitcrazy.  You were sweet to say hello to her daughter.  She's a big ole biotch for being so rude.  Give your kids two names and you should expect people to use one, since that is more typical.

    I get irritated when people shorten my name or give me a completly different nickname than the one I use but I don't think I've ever gotten myself in a big huff over it.  Maybe if they did it repeatedly after I corrected them . . . but sounds like that mommy was a bit cranky.

    When I first read this, I thought you were saying it was the toddler insisting "No! Holly Jean!" Nope, just the mom acting like a toddler, huh? 
    After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

    I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

    And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!
