I feel like I don't even know where to start with boy names. We have looked at name berry, babynames.com, nymbler, read two books and don't even have a semblance of a like list. We have a no way in heck list but other than that nothing! Are there any great resources out there we're overlooking?
Re: Feeling lost in a sea of names...
At 15 weeks, the greatest resource I can recommend is taking a break. Are you finding out the sex? If so, wait until after the a/s to worry about it. If not, I'd still wait til then.
There's no use getting overwhelmed so early in your pregnancy. Give it a break for a while. You'd be amazed what a fresh perspective can do in a couple of weeks.
Lucky you with an early a/s! With DD, we had to wait til like....Week 24. So annoying.
Still, though, you should take a break. It's really early in the game. I think a fresh perspective would be good for your name search.
Ha ha. I feel the same way about DD. We love DS's name and just can't find anything we absolutely love. It's tough.
My best advice to OP is to look through family names and think about favorite people/characters.
Some people might flame me for this, but I have always been a Pride and Predjudice fan, hence DS is Bennett.
Good Luck.
I can't relate because there are so many names I like out there that I'll never be fertile enough to use.
But, I would not feel pressure to settle upon a name before the baby arrives. Give yourself up thru week 40 (or whenever he arrives) to come up with a name that feels right to both of you.
Once you get farther along you could try talking to the baby in utero with different names. We did that with DS1 in the hospital, we tried out some different names the first couple days just to see which one felt right. The other trick people do is use the name when you go out, use the name for reservations at a restaurant, at the coffee shop, etc to see the reaction you get and get a sense of how it feels.
I love this idea. I personally find boy names much harder than girls... I feel like the tease-factor is a bigger deal there, and also, it's just hard to find a solid, underused name... so many great popular ones (which is fine, it's just that our ln is so common, that a really common fn is kind of bland). Anyway, yes, take a break. And eventually, start "trying out" names. When you try names out, also pair them with your ln... I found hearing the full name gives me a much better idea of whether I want to keep the name.
