1st Trimester

Nausea Remedies?

I am 6 weeks and i felt no symptoms until last Friday. Since then i have been nauseous every single day. I haven't physically been sick but the feeling of nausea lingers all day, everyday so far. Does anyone have any remedies to share? My mom works with an old OBGYN nurse at her practice and she recommended drinking Guava juice and possibly using some of the paste on crackers to help. So far the juice does help a little bit but i don't want to keep drinking it all day.

 Thank you!

  • If there's a Whole Foods or natural food store near you, see if they carry "Ginger Trips." I used to take them for car sickness and now take them for morning sickness. They taste pretty bad, but chewing two ginger tablets seems to help me a lot.

  • I was nausea from the day i found out (at 4 weeks) until about a week ago (week 9) and got sick almost everyday...what i found worked the best for me was hard candy (doesn't matter if it's preggo pops or not) the moment i felt nausea I would start sucking on one and by the time i was done it had passed (it would be back in a few minutes!!) but it was the only thing I could get to help!! GL
  • Citrus smells helped me a lot with my daughter and have helped this time around as well.  I've eaten quite a few oranges over the past several weeks and use lemon a lot in my water.  My boss told, and I've heard from other people as well, that Unisom and B6 taken together at night are supposed to help. I personally haven't tried it, but maybe worth looking into.  Guess it just depends upon how you feel on taking medication during the first trimester.
  • Buy FRESH GINGER.  Peel it (use a teaspoon, not the measuring kind...just the small on with your silverware, and scrape the skin off.  Smash it with the side of a chef knife (like how they do garlic) or u can use a can (just slide it in a ziploc to avoid a messy can, and steep it in hot water, not boiling...you are making ginger tea.  You can make as much or as little as you want, make it strong and pour over ice for iced tea, add some mint to your iced glass.  You can add orange peel while steeping, star anise (licorice flavor), endless flavors.  I made some for my friend and zofran didn't even help her but this did.  I used a large (4-5 inches) ginger root and about 6 cups of H20, I peeled the ginger then cut it into 1-2 inch sections, smashed it to release oils and flavors, dropped it in the water and barely simmered for an hour (I am sure it was ready before then, I wanted to reduce it and concentrate the flavors).  I then added some orange peels in for about 10 minutes (burner is off).  I added pure local honey until I liked the taste and voila, done!  If you want a more concentrated flavor, simmer longer to reduce (keep a good eye on it once sugar is in!)  I like to concentrate it then pour it over ice for iced tea.  chilling it will make flavors less intense, drinking warm can be soothing and will also intensify flavors.  HTH

  • I'm totally trying some of these remedies because I'm right there with you! I'm into my 7th week, and just this weekend started feeling this crap!

I had DH get me some Sea Bands and some B6. In conjunction, they're helping a lot with the nausea, but not so much with the hungover feeling. I've been trying to drink a lot of water and fill up that empty stomach feeling. I had some Sun Chips this morning, and they were wonderful, so the saltiness will probably help.

I just told my boss, and she suggested just fresh air and long walks might help.

Probably just keep the blood sugar level and stay away from anything that will turn your stomach! Good luck!

  • I got the nausea & being physically sick around 8 weeks. I was sick all day, every day til around 20ish weeks. I tried the unisom & b6 combination, eating a couple saltine crackers before you get out of bed in the morning, ginger ale, otc emetrol, & more. The only thing that slightly relieved me was lemonade & phenergan. Phenergan will make you drowsy though.

  • Jolly Ranchers have helped me.  (as a PP said, hard candy)  But it isn't long lasting, it only helps while I'm sucking on one.  Yesterday, I felt like I had one in my mouth constantly, and I wanted to brush my teeth so bad by the time I got home!  So, it's probably not the best remedy... but it's working.  (and it's better than the nausea!)

ETA: I've heard the Sea Bands really do work for people... so I'm seriously considering trying that too.

Anniversary DS was born 11/30/12... so in love :)
