Hey ladies, quick question... if you are registering, how many items are listed for your little one? There are 35 people invited to my shower and a few of my girlfriends have told me that when it comes to registering, your item number should be triple your guest number > however that would leave me with 90+ items and honestly I feel bad doing that! I have 65 items on there now, and 3 of those are expensive, so I don't really want to add more, but everyone seems to have an opinion how I need to add more... thoughts?! Thanks!
Re: how many items on baby's registry?
I have a Target registry and BRU registry and I think I have around 65 or so items on each (a lot of small stuff!). BRU suggested 5 items per guest because a lot of guest will buy a lot of small items as one gift.
My opinion (as far as shopping for a baby shower) is I like to have a lot of choices!
What about waiting until I can see what's being bought, and then re-add things if needed? Or should I just add more?
I have one registry with 30 items on it. I figure if people choose to buy the baby a gift, and don't see anything on the registry they want to purchase, then they will probably just end up buying baby clothes-which is great.
that's true about the 10% completion discount! I totally forgot about that until now! I guess I just feel bad because there are tons of items on there that are $15 and under, but there are also quite a few that are $45 and up.. I feel kind of guilty adding more on, I don't want to be greedy!
I second this! People can always go in on gifts together, or lots of folks are like to buy you cute things they want to buy you anyway.
Same here. We didn't actually put any clothes on our registry because we figure people will probably choose to go this route anyways and buy what they think is cute, which is fine. If we wanted it or know we will need it we put it on the registry (BRU & Target) because of the completion coupon so we get that discount for everything that is left over even if it is something not all that exciting like nail clippers or first aid kit.
I have two registries in the works (Amazon & BRU), with a total of 82 items so far. I'm expecting about 50 guests at my shower (only having one), so I figured it'd be better to have too many items rather than not enough.
50 items in my registries are below $20, and the rest are over. I figured I'd put everything I want on there, and if we don't get them, I can at least get the completion code or use gift cards to get the remaining items.

I have 67 items on my target registry. I have no idea how many people will be invited to my shower yet.
I am using my registry as kind of a check-list of things I need and things I have. My BRU registry has 87 items and my Target registry has 70 items. There are about 10 things that are on both registries (things I really want). I stalk my registry 1-2 times a day so I don't have a problem with keeping them in sync.
I made sure to have a good variety of items. I have 2 items on the registry over $100, about 5-10 items that are between $50-99, about 10-15 items that are between $30 - $49, and the rest are under $30 (with many smaller items under $10).
If I was you, I would just make sure you have a good variety of price ranges, and if you notice you have run out of everything under a certain price, maybe see if you can add some more items in that price range, but don't add stuff you won't use.
I have 4 registeries (babies r us, walmart, target & jcp) with 138 individual items. I started with babies r us. Then, added walmart bc they have the cheapest diapers & wipes. Then I didnt think I should be stuck with just the walmart rugs & lamps, so i registered @ target. Then the crib set is @ jcp so ive registered for that and the curtian rods there. Most the items are from target & babies r us. Also, I have things on there (crib/dresser set $800, nikon digital camara/video recorder $750) that i dont expect people (unless they are my parents, even then i dont expect it but its out there incase, hehe!) to buy & are only on there so I know what I like so when Im ready to buy, that's what I buy.
Over half the registery is multiples of the same item... 5 cases of wipes, 5 bottles baby body wash, 5 bottles of baby lotion, 2 boxes breastmilk bags, 2 cases each of 4 different size diapers, multiple packages of socks in multiple sizes, 1 bib for each holiday, 2 rugs, 3 containers destin cream, 2 curtain rods, 4 curtians, 4 diff crib sheets--crib is convertible so we will use those for years-- 2 changing pad covers, 2 safety gates, 2 packs todler spoons, 4 todler sippy cups, 2 packs baby wash cloths, 2 mattress pads...
Only things I still need to add are first aid items (nail clippers, bulb syringe, etc) and house safety items (outlet covers, cabinet latches, etc), a crib mattress and possiblly a glider/rocker--maybe.
I do have to say I did compare prices & then register for the item where it was cheapest---the bouncer was a $20 difference between babies r us and target!! Needless to say, target was cheaper!
I did not register for blankets (thick or recieving), pacifiers, monitor, diaper genie, pack n play, bottle or wipes warmer or clothes (besides socks). Between the 1 consignment sale, 1 yard sale, my cousin's hand me downs, a couple hours clearance shopping, i spent about $100 my son is clothed for the first 6 months! and a few more pairs of pants, a jacket or 2 and a couple onsies and he can make it past 9 months in clothes! Kids clothes are soo expensive, Id rather have multiples of the same USEABLE thing than someone spend the same $ amount and get clothes he will only wear for 3 months. just my opinion...
Our only registry is on Amazon and there are about 190 things, but there are a lot of individual diaper covers and cloth diapering supplies; I also added a bunch of clothes and little wooden toys just to give a hint as to what we like.
Everything is under $30 except for a small handful of items. It's a very inexpensive registry with an $80 infant car seat, $79 woven wrap, $250 convertible car seat, and $250 portable washer as our biggest items. We're having 2 showers, one with about 40 people (co ed, including families) and one that will probably end up with maybe 10 or so people. If someone wants to spend, say, $50 on us, they can easily purchase 4 or 5 items.
